What if the West had just left them alone? Not colonialize them, lie about weapons of mass destruction, then bomb them, invade them, prop up tyrannical governments so we get access to their oil, meddle, intervene, interfere with their worlds, humiliate and ridicule their religion....

Firstly, putting security forces on stand-by and mobilising are not at all the same thing. British forces are on stand-by, which means certain response teams will practice responses to a similar attack in the UK. Such exercises are common here.
Secondly, the Channel tunnel has been closed down due to a fire on a lorry, not because of security reasons.
If you primarily watch CNN it is understandable that you are so misinformed. I would suggest broadening your news horizons.

From what I read in the media the Belgian police attacked three guys in a house in Verviers. Apparently they were planning to decapitate a Belgian authority and put the film on YouTube... *cough*
It is true that the government switched to a higher alert phase and that cops are allowed to take their gun home now. At least in some districts. They also removed all pictures from police staff from their website. That is what I heard yesterday in the news. Oh, and the army is ready to help the police... Let's all hope it will not be necesarry.

CNN used to be the best news channel out there. But They've been going downhill last couple of years. Now they're more about reality shows about cooking and such. And what news they do cover is largely tabloid news.
They've managed to avoid the political biases which continue to plague FOX News, and MSNBC. So far. But they are making some very bad production decisions.

(BTW, we don't buy half as much oil from them as we use to decades ago). Things have changed in the past 30 years--oil wise. Russia, Canada, Venezuela, and the U.S. produce a lot of oil.
CNN was talking about the racial make-up of Hoolywood lately. Al Sharpton chimed in on twitter with a funny comment. He said, "Hoolywood is looking more and more like the Rocky Mountains. The higher up you go, the whiter it gets".
