Any update on the Coronavirus test of Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin in your countries?

Chess.com is a wonderful platform, where people from all over the world congregate and we can have a large data pool of information to share with each other.

Coronavirus is a threat the world over and the whole world is awaiting some good news.

So the brightest spark of that has been the news that some experimental meds have been touted as potential game-changers, by Donald Trump.

Now I know that Trump's words are not often the most wisely chosen ones, but even so, a lot of other countries have subsequently allowed the use of those drugs to treat people, including India.

Now I am sure these decisions were taken on the back of far greater data backing than Trump said so.

However there have been limited updates on how effective these drugs have been so far. I know its only been a day or two and atleast a week would be required before drawing any conclusions.

But is there anything on this in the media of your own countries. Any news reports, any doctors saying something, etc. on how those trials have gone so far and whether there is any promise.

If so please share.

Regards

Chloroquine poisonings reported.

Hi,

Thx for replying.

Yes I had read those Nigerian panic situation, ODs earlier.

No, what I wanted to know was whether it has had any effects on the people who have coronavirus and what the early feedback from those trials, if any, is like.

Why come here for info?

JayeshSinhaChess

Because, the info I am looking for is not available anywhere else.

Since ppl from all over the world play here, I thought maybe there was some update in those countries, in local press and this felt like a good place to ask, since ppl form all over the world here.

I saw today Canadian researchers are testing a common anti-inflammatory drug; however, I don't recall the name (perhaps it wasn't mentioned because trials are ongoing). Apparently, the theory is that COVID-19 damages lung tissue by inflammation, so treat with an anti-inflammatory?

A man died today from self-treating with chloroquine.

9 deaths in india

The drug I referenced above (post #7) is Colchicine. News article here:

Colchicine

Interesting when reading the article that a small Canadian firm recognized the outbreak 9 days before WHO, ". . . Toronto-based startup BlueDot, which used artificial intelligence to flag the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan nine days before the World Health Organization . . ."

Not the right type of the compound though.

Wow thx. But still 3 months is a long time for this study. Lets hope this works and works sooner.

Here's some more scientific info..... It seems that in 2015, numerous biotech firms were studying bat-type SARS viruses.....                                                               https://www.google.com/search?q=2015+report+of+bat-type+viruses&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS743US743&oq=2015+report+of+bat-type+viruses&aqs=chrome..69i57.14461j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8                I mention this because a researcher on MSNBC said the current virus is mutating......but NOT quickly....  which is a good thing in terms of getting a vaccine.

Hi,

Thx you have been providing some very useful research to look into. Its different, and not the same stuff one finds circulating everywhere else.

I will look into this. Keep enlightening us.

Ron has been very helpful in finding all these stories and posting for us to read.

Thx Ron.

I thought this video had some useful info in it:

Also, while I don't have any data, I've watched a few videos recently claiming that you also need to take some zinc with the hydroxychloroquine to make it effective. (Not sure of what the zinc dosage would need to be.)

COVID_19 does not damage the lungs by inflammation.  It causes an immune response, which invoves 3 immune agents, and this response causes the lungs to fill up with fluid.

As for the medication, there have not been any significant studies because the number of people in the clinical trials was too small (about 20).  Currently, the CDC is conducting clinical trials to see if the drug combination is effective.  It has some significant side-effects, include heart failure, so it is risky.  The CDC hopes to evaluate the number of positive outcomes (cures) versus risk of side effects.

Finally, the CDC and other labs are developing tests to detect antibodies, which form in people who are cured of COVID_19.  By separating blood from plasma, the antibodies can be injected into sick people.  So far, in 3 tests, 2 people got better and one person showed no improvement.  The antibody test can also be used to see who has recovered from COVID_19, but was asymptomatic (meaning they showed no symptoms and probably didn't even know they had been infected).  All of this is important because when restrictions are lifted, testing and contact tracing are crucial to preventing a second wave of infection.

Finally, vaccine trials are underway.  It will be months before a vaccine is ready and the CDC said it will be an annual vaccine because the virus is expected to mutate.

Ronald there is too much confusion over HCQ.

Plasma treatment seems to be the new thing they are all trying. Could you help us know if there are any repots on how effective they are for covid19.

I mean there have been a lot of reports that say it could be effective and is being tried, but is there any report of whether it is working.

I have tried looking and not found any report to that effect.

Thx for the update. Please provide more updates on the effectiveness of plasma treatment if possible. 3 is too small a number to go by for any trial.

Regarding HCQ, this video has more info on the zinc part of the puzzle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eha_XjGNKj4

So, my first video post (JAMA interview of David Juurlink) is a good source of the potential benefits and risks of using HCQ, and my second video post (Dr. Berg's video) gives a summary of what we currently know about HCQ, along with Dr. Zelenko's drug protocol, which adds zinc to the mix.

Well as long as we get a vaccine it doesnt matter who made it.
