Greetings from Nepal!

*WARNING LONG POST*

Well, I'm just another teenager who is obseesed in chess, and love it both for it's fun and competitive aspect. I've been playing this game ever since I first learned to be able to distinguish and name the pieces on the board.

I've been fairly decent in my prime, attaining a rating of 1780 elo. I've been obstructed from playing competitive chess for fairly over a year and a half because I've not been able to dedicate enough time because of my College...

It all started 3 months back when one of the kids from the neighbourhood saw me teaching my brother chess in the backyard. He implored me to teach him the game, and I obliged. Kids that I never even spoke to started to showing up in my backyard with their parents to help then learn the game and get better. And before I knew it, I was teaching 21 different kids, all from different castes and ethnicity reaching out to me for teaching this game, primarily at weekends... Now, three months later, kids of varying ages, 7-13 come every saturday at 8 am sharp just so that I can teach them.

Some of these kids have grown so much in intellect that they can easily topple your average coffeehouser. Some of these kids are so driven, that their will of fire melts even the most tyrant parent. In the course of mere weeks to a month, these kids have shown such remarkable progresses that I must confess myself that I myself would be scared of of my rivals.

Only one thing impedes these fine children - equipment for learning. They can learn from what I call my limited experience and my limited equipments, some would go as far as calling what I provide to them as pathetic. ONE rubbered chess board, ONE tourney styled staunton chess set(With a rook missing), some books of H Staunton, Euwe & Meiden, Kasparov and such. They are cursed by what I call a geographical error- They got borned in a Third world country, where chess players don't make an adequate living, and chess is often put as a "fashion" in movies, to show one's "smart" et cetera.

It's appaling to see how they get dissappointed when I call out 2 kids to play against each other whilst others observe - They wish to play themselves. On the other hand, the literature section is deplorable- They are able to gobble up databases of chess games within weeks, how can ONE book do them Justice? Even my allowance doesn't help- a book that might be 5$ there is about 500-600Rs(Excluding a plethora of taxations, royalties, profits blah blah blah) here. These children have got only limited requirements- More books, more apparatus to play with. For christ's sake they don't even know that tourney games are timed- the most basic of chess clock costs around 99$ here( which I'm ashamed to admit costs around 1 1/2 years of acrrued allowance on my part). These children are the victims of an instable nation that is being hindered of it's development due to a handful of corrupted politicians, that have inflated the economy.

While one could argue that experience is the best teachers = more games, I beg to differ. I've noticed the difference magnitude you can achieve just through reading the words of the wiser chess figures. Going through a commented game always "dings" something inside the reader - an urge to play even better.

I hereby ask you guys to lend in a hand- Don't let the flame die out. If even this hasn't melted your hearts yet, I don't think any more words will. They just want their talents blossomed, only impeding factor is the financial issues not even evoked by them.

Help will be accepted in any form, big or small. Do you have an old chess book/clock lying around collecting dust? Pray send it to them. Have you got any used chess software, books or any other stuff that you think the kids will benefit from? Yes please! Instead of literally wasting that 20$ on buying an average junk off that fancy store mart shelf, why not send it those who'll make the most out of it? I'll be prepared to make sure that every dime that YOU donate gets to them, no filthy commision/cheat involved. Help in any way possible- It's not just for those kids, good news prevails at distances, who knows if I become the coach of the country one of these days?

I'm reaching out for the philanthropist in you people, help these kids get better at what we all love- their plight brings an excruciating twist in my gut- they are the buddings what we may all be proud of tommorow.

Regards, and a million thanks in advance!

Could you explain please? I might have misunderstood, but how does a global leader in providing #technology enabled #business solutions. get interested in a voluntary chess coaching club like ours?

Try making makeshift pieces with whatever you have... Coins for pieces, squares made by drawing on paper... At least in the interim till you get help

I think Napal has bigger problems than chess.
