Judean Peoples Front? Pah.

 Spliter!

I know this idea will never work but, how about forming teams to take the deabte to the boards? Republicans Vs Democrats, Kings vs Disciples etc. You know get those passionate juices into the game.

This thread was started by erik, who tells us in another thread that no political discussions are allowed.

How terribly confusing.Surprised

"Ah!, Lets just talk about sex then."

What do you need to know?

"How terribly confusing"

Not really.

i still don't get why this is so confusing to you :) i started this thread because we had another thread get really out of hand and i wanted to see what everyone thought about the idea of not allowing these two topics. it's pretty plain and simple.

Then maybe we should stop talking about the taser guy, and the constitution and Batgirl. The point of discussion rooms are to have discussions and any topic, even chess brings about passion and inevitably arguments with extensive debates. Are we allowed to discuss the big bang theory and evolution but leave out creationism? What about gay chess players? They may be offensive.

I actually like visiting chess sites and debating off topic issues with the members. Chess prople are very intelligent and conversationally savvy!

I vote for creating a forum for politics and one for religion. I come here for socialization AND chess. Well, chess first.

Yeah, and no posts about comfortable pants either. :)

Jona004, but don't you understand that comfortable-pants-talk is highly inappropriate in most conversations?

Lighten up mate, it was meant as a joke, don't be so serious.

dylan

Chess itself is inherintly political. First of all you've got your feudal power structure with King being all important. Even the Queen is expendable, you can always get another one, or eight. Also there is the constant territorial conflict.

The devotion the pieces have for their king evn to the point of sacrificng their lives must surely border on the religious (he's even got a little crucifix on top of his head).

I'm not saying the very act of engaging in chess is an endorsment of the politcal structure it reflects.  I'm just saying that chess is not somehow sealed of from the rest of our lives.

Lighten up mate, it was meant as a joke, i'm mocking the admin who shut your conversation down, comfortable-pants-talk is acceptable even in the (sorry for the forbidden term) Catholic Church...

Couldn't agree more! Americans and us English like to preach about what a free speaking civilisation we are, then we get censored to death when we use it, incase someone takes offence.

What's wrong with being a Catholic?

batgirl

"What's wrong with being a Catholic?"

I understood him to mean by "forbidden term" the reference to religion, the forbidden topic, and not a slur against the Cathloic Church, which he seemed to hold up simply as a benchmark of conservatism.
