In the USA, virtually every citizen was an immigrant at one time.
Try achieving citzenship if you're Turkish, and living in Germany.

Does it bother anyone that both World Wars started in Europe ?

P.S. -- the USA has been heavily armed since its farmers began populating the Eastern Mississippi frontier, hundreds of years ago. Fighting against Indians, and the French too.
Please STOP tilting at windmills, all the while devoid of historical understanding.
Nuff said ?
Zborg, good point about Europe being the hotbed for potential worldwide conflict...
If you want you can start another thread about it...
This one is about guns - and the question of whether it is Evil.
Graphs on Consumer Debt levels (as in post #147) are complete non-sequitors.
Ditto with the idea that Australia was somehow a "peaceful country," from an historical perspective.
This thread is just claptrap. You keep redefining "the topic," then proclaming persuasive insight into it.
You Don't Have That Insight.
Sorry to break the news to you.
just riposting the argument about Amercans having money as reason why they are the biggest customers of gun manufacturers
This evil thread is wickedly stupid, (cf. post #108).
Run (and Gun) with It...
*This is one scary discussion. Yikes.
You guys are saying the freedom of the countries depends on the quantity the weapons the people have? really? Is like saying it depends on the quantity of the bubble gum, these are two unrelated things.
Now something realated, USA is probably one of the countries with more shootings (schools, cinemas). That is gun related.
You can say what you want but USA is the country where a disturbed can buy a gun more easily.
Also, the TC is clearly biased and the question of the title is childish. Of course a gun isn't evil, like any other tool, like a hammer or a pencil aren't evil.
I have my opinion, Suravira...
That Evil exists, that it is a conscious energy..it enters the world via "portals" -- humans are its vessels and gateways, guns is another point of entry - a portal for Evil to enter into this world.
The toddler, the stupid parent, the gun ... one minute the kid is chuckling with his siblings the next...their world is turned upside down ...like a dark cloud evil penetrates and takes over their world - death, misery, suffering - long lasting..
stupidity - Evil's greatest servant
Again, you people sure are serious about some thing that's not going to happen.
You don't like guns? Try arguing for serious enforcement of the laws we already have in place rather than for the pipe dream about banning guns. Not going to happen. No one can make it happen... oh, wait, I've said that before. Refute this BEFORE resorting to ad hominem attacks, please.
Regards,
Lou
The gun - Evil's point of entry into this world...just laying in wait for one fuck-up to happen.
So the more evil (uncapitalized) enters the world, the more guns we buy. And the more guns we buy, the more evil enters the world. Buddy, soon everyone will be armed but you. I suggest you take a gun safety course before you purchse your gun.
Regards,
Lou
I'm not trying to change the laws or overturn any amendment in the constitution or any such thing
I've got family who owns guns and a family friend who collects guns. This subject has never come up between us.
It's a discussion that goes beyong the reality of American society, and the current polarizing politics about it...
Its deep moral-philosophical meaning is what has netted my mind onto the subject.

I already know how to handle a gun.
I always had this skit in mind for SNL...
It's the dawn of gun-lovers utopia in America. Supreme Court rules that citizens can carry guns openly everywhery in public the ultimate honor of the 1st and 2nd Amendment.
Everybody's walking round with one strapped to their waist.
Cut scene to movie theatre. Everybody in there watching their movie.
Terrorist comes to the entry, lights firecrackers, throws it inside the theatre and chains up the exit doors so noone can run out.

And you think that's a funny skit for SNL? Bro, your problem isn't about guns. It's about a need for counseling.

This.
Some people isn't arguing about weapons, but about who should be president. And is sad some groups made the guns their banner. Both democrats and republicans do things right and wrong, but protect the use of weapons is clearly wrong.

nah, it's about taking down the logic of "if everybody's armed then everybody's protected"...
As an immigrant, I say the Freedom of gun ownership is one of the best things about the United States. Just my two cents. It looks like there's no use arguing since the parties stick to their position regardless of what's said and done. And that's fine with me too. I could only hope that there will be more people with a gun-friendly mindset here in the U.S. Please don't try to drag me into discussion since I'm not going to participate. Peace out.
