Tom-Tom go for Gold man!Laughing You must have  heard of the "Rumble in the Jungle" contest(1974) when Cassius Clay knocked the Sh*t out of Foreman in Kinshasa.Wow.I'm sure as a champ (?Flyweight) yourself you must have read of it .What is your take on it?

Good question.

Well I enjoyed it but it's hardly Ali in his prime. He did what he had to do.

I suppose to compare boxers we need to consider them in their prime.
TomGa
Now Ali was special am I right? I wonder though how much of his reputation was about his talent. I haven't seen that much of him fighting if I'm honest.
TomGa
I've never really had a fight before. To be honest I think I would probably kick rather than punch but I have to admit that boxing is artistic at times.
TomGa
Let's talk favourite fighters.
TomGa
I know a little bit of boxing though I'm interested to read about what you guys think.
TomGa
I think about sugar ray. Handsome. That punch he did. When he span his arm around. Wow. Take that! Against Tommy the Hitman Hearns. Beauty and the beast. Ding a ling.

Another historical fight in the annals of Boxing was that between Max Schmeling of Germany and Joe Louis of the USA in the the 30's.Schmeling had been Heavyweight Champion of the World. In the first fight Schmeling knocked out Louis (19.6.1936) In the rematch (22.06.1938) it was Schmeling that was knocked out 2 minutes and four seconds into the first round.Louis became winner and Heavyweight Champion. This fight is well chronicled on several websites  partly because of Political implications particularly relating to Germany at the time-in view of the embargo on political discussions on these forums-no moreSealed.Read it up on the related websites.Very interesting.

PS Sugar Ray Robinson was also a classic fighter Tom-Tom.

TomGa
That was a great story. Thank you.

Hey you know these carny fighters? Or bare knuckled boxers? Anyone of these ever become champion of the world?

Hi Tom,

don't know nothing about boxing

I only know "Million Dollar Baby," the movie based on a short story, "the Rope Burns?"

TomGa
Hey hi lofina. I'm not particularly knowledgable about boxing.

People have negative views on boxing and I understand why but there have been examples of bravery and commitment and dedication there. Grace too.

Gladiators you know.

I'm not familiar with the million dollar baby story.

now that I didn't know - songs about boxing 😶

By the way, I don't agree boxing being labeled as a sport; but I understand why people do so, and why people get into a ring

PlayChessPoorly
There is a great anime about boxing you should check out called "Hajime No Ippo".
TomGa
Why isn't boxing a sport lofina I'm curious

*I will probably be disliked for stating this😶

This is why:

I do know that there also organized fights between PitBulls(like the link above). And these too, are labeled as "sport?"

and that is how I view boxing.

I question the concept of entertainment that has people (or animals) being subjected to an arena in which, "who can inflict the most amount of brutality" is declared the winner of some prize
