Calling All Limburger Lovers

Tonight's meal is the sandwich with Margaret's prep, a Spicy Chicken Salad.

For the drink, I decided to go with Jones Cream Soda.

This drink almost has a cotton-candy hint with the creme soda - pretty nice!

My wife had also prepared something for dinner - Spicy Chicken Salad!

For her, this was REALLY hot!  For me, it had a pleasant heat, and a great flavor.

Now, we come to the infamous Scut-Bomb, but I threw a couple of twists on the sandwich.

Here is a picture of it open-faced:

What do we have here?  Dark Rye bread, generously coated with Ingelhoffer Stone Ground Mustard, chopped onion (instead of sliced, to try to create more texture), healthy slices of braunschweiger, limburger cheese, sliced pickled jalapenos, and finally - potato chips!

My honest appraisal?  The potato chips failed to give the sandwich the crunch I was looking for, as they get slightly moist in the sandwich.  This thing still POPS with flavor!  Next time, we are going to try bacon.  I will keep you updated!

BirdsDaWord

Okay, my wife used the bacon!  lol

But, I took Scut's idea with the Braunschweiger, and I added some stuff.  Here is the layout of this sandwich (which was awesome!) -

- Piece of Rye Bread

- Mayo

- Sliced Red Onions

- Sliced Tomato

- Lettuce

- Limburger Cheese

- Braunschweiger

- Stone Ground Mustard

- Piece of Rye Bread

I must testify, much to my chagrin, that I forgot to chop up the pickled jalapenos by the time I hired a heavy equipment driver to lift one side of the sandwich and place it on the other side.  This thing was a HORSE of a sandwich!  So, I ate the pickled jalapenos on the side.

And I testify, this sandwich ROCKS!  It tasted like this...

grover-dill

so if you could put it to music it would sound like this

BirdsDaWord

I was thinking more like this!

BirdsDaWord

Okay, no posts in a while, so here it goes:

Light Rye

Honey Mustard

Onion Sliced

Limburger Thickly Sliced

Turkey Breast

Bread and Butter Pickles...

MMMM!!!!

grover-dill

bread and butter pickles, sounds interesting.  Will try it.

The sandwich was definitely soft - a slightly sweet sandwich with just a bit of crunch from the pickles and the onions.  It was an older block when I bought it (over 4 months), but believe it or not, the cheese was not as pungeant with the other ideas.  I also tried some the other day with hummus as the sandwich spread, but it didn't get me going like this one.

I just finished the brick that I had from a few montha ago, and it was good :) BirdBrain, that sandwich you just posted looks like a winner too. I'll try it next time I get some Limburger... Cool

BirdsDaWord

Brother, you will NOT be disappointed!  That sandwich really hit the spot :-)

Thanks BB, that's lunch tomorrow... Tongue out

Hey, I have been working hard to "perfect" this sandwich.  Right now, I am taking the eggs and creating egg salad out of them, so they keep on the sandwich better, and I am slicing a 1" thick or so section of the cheese, slicing it further into 8 thin slices for the sandwich.  This still gives it the Limburger flavor, and you can save some of the cheese.  When I first was making the sandwich, I was simply slicing whole sections of the Limburger and placing it on the sandwich, but then I was using almost 3 oz of cheese on there!  This way, I save my block!

denist

that's a good economic and healthier way to use a good cheese BB,...no need to eat it all at once... Cool

I have to consider how much fat is in stuff, and not to eat cheese or other fatty foods too often...I'm to old to ware it off now... Wink

Will try sandwich soon!

Just add LImburger, something hot and onions

just one word for this concept,...brilliant!!! Smile

As you can probably tell the bread has to be extremely hard or crunchy or you will have soggy bread which sucks.  next time I would but it on a small rack and put holes in the bread to drain some of the juices. Or drain some of the juices before squashing

BirdsDaWord

Scut, you have won the award for show and tell!  I can almost taste that thing!
