I tell myself every game i'm not going to castle.  But I always do for fear of maybe, just maybe it would do me good.   it has become habitual.  If I don't, it's almost the same feeling I have when I drive to work with no shoes on.  ..."something just isn't right"

There's another side to castling.  Forget protecting the king, it connects the rooks, making them stronger.  So by castling, the king does grow a pair - a pair of connected rooks.

I can't disagree with you more.  Protecting your king is paramount.  The first thing I do in any game is remove my king from the board completely.

That's what I do, but I replace it with a female jelly baby. I can never find a male one.

What a load of Rooks! wink.png

Yes, there's  strength  in numbers.  Unless you have three rooks, then it's  a recognised  medical condition.

It's not unheard of, some swap a pawn for a rook. wink.png

ever notice how no pawn wants to be a king , isnt that telling you something about what the peasents feel about the monarch ?

Hmmm, what would chess be like if the king had the same mobility as the queen?

Or even more mobility?  Since the queen is like a combination of a rook and a bishop, imagine if the king could move like a combination of a queen and a knight, making it the most valuable attacking piece, but still vulnerable to mate.  Would it make a more exciting game, or a more risky one?  Endgames would certainly be a lot more dynamic.

I think about these things while chewing hay.

itd get dizzy like finding out in can castle on move 1 in 960

not recommended as castling is for wimps lol

id prefer a hyperspace button like in asteroids it might get the king out of trouble it might really ruin his day

you know...this has brought up another thing.  The majority of pawns that make it to the end, usually end up turning into a queen right?

All these pawns are working their squares to make it to the top.  Once they're there? transformed into a queen...

The king is a pimp!!!!!

yeah thatd explain things

lol, just seen this...I totally agree with you Anok. I've said it befre and I'll say it again.." castling is like giving your address to a serial killer!"...I must say though, Graham is right with his very humourous rook comment...still, though, there's no rush, lol, eg. I would never castle in first 5 moves...and often don't bother at all :)
