True, but there would also be no property, so one player could just take all the pieces (which are equal, as you stated) and win.

I propose capitalist chess. Different squares will be publicly traded, and there will be a free market for bartering about pieces and squares

From each according to his capacity, to each according to his need. Of course, it's never been that way in practice, it's always been pretty much the way it already is on a Chess board. You have one all powerful, lesser ranking powerfuls and then the Peons. You're right! Chess is Communist, as practiced. Which is really nothing more than a dictatorship. I would have to think about the Marxist ideal of chess. You have read Marx, right? Groucho should be around in a little while.
