I was wondering because I solve problems I encounter at work in my sleep sometimes but have never dreamed any chess moves. I haven't played chess that long, only about a year. I was wondering if any of you that have played for quite some time have ever solved chess puzzles in your sleep while dreaming?
Chess Dreams

I've had quite a few dreams about chess thoughout the 12 years I've been playing, but I don't remember what they were about now. I don't think I ever solved a chess problem, but I really don't remember.

Thank you for posting. I have solved some computer problems in my dreams and was wondering if anyone does that with chess.

Some of my are more like nightmares...I did a certain move and I thought it over when I wad laying down...then I thought that was stupid or a dumb move...I should of worked it differently.

Goodness, yes. I dream about it often, especially after I played a game (and usually lose). I dream about the things I could have done differently.... If only! Haha. Great topic. Thanks for posting.

I was curious about it because over the last few years I have solved some work problems in my sleep related to the computer and was amazed that I happened to dream the answer... And was curious whether anyone did it with chess puzzles. I only do it if I'm totally wrapped up in the thought process and working on it for several days. It has only happened a few times. But never for chess as I'm fairly new to chess.

I don't remember any chess dreams...had some fishing dreams but like most of life ,couldn't make much sense of them ! lol

Lol... I may be having some shark dreams soon after catching some in Florida last week, swimming in the ocean and now this week is Shark Week on TV. Lol nightmare. Lol scary but beautiful animals.

Thank you Enrrikerr, Frankenstein and 6 for commenting. I love to hear what everyone has to say about it. I think if I continue to play as much as I do, then I will start to dream about the games....especially once I get a little more serious and try to improve my game. I want to become a better player. I think this is the year for it!
Yes. In dreams I have seen actual real positions with legal moves and combos, all in posns entirely new to me.
I am serious. THe mind. It's one weird beast.

I agree with that. I have solved complex math problems and such other problems in my sleep. I woke with answers to things that had me perplexed for weeks. It's amazing. I thought there would be people that spent more time and that were more advanced in chess than I am that had had the same occur in chess games.... I was just wondering if that was so. I was shocked when it happened to me.

It's the reason I'm not in bed right now. Now being 4am. I didn't solve a problem, but woke up wondering if a position was as I thought, or if I had blundered away my queen. Once awake I couldn't shake the thought and had to come see. Qualifies as a nightmare maybe...the board is as I thought, and my queen lives! After sleeping, I have solved sudoku puzzles that previously had me stumped. But, it wasn't that the solution came to me while asleep. It was viewing the puzzle with a "fresh" eye, or perhaps the "just woke up fuzz" filters out distractions, leaving a type of clarity. Almost a Zen-nish state. Maybe I'm weird!

I have sometimes had chess dreams, mostly about correspondance games and me making moves to them. Then I wake up and see I didn't actually do those moves. It's really weird, because I remember the game almost precisely and the name of the player it is against.

No M_D_S, its not weird. LOL that's why I asked. I find it quite fascinating.... what all we can solve in our sleep while dreaming. The mind is amazing. Thanks M_D_S and Vis-USEast for sharing.

A really charming subject, BlueEyedLady, and since this life in virtual chess is in some sense already dreamlike, it's nearly as if we were talking about a double dream... I've not experience specifically about chess, but I'll try and put more attention on that, and let you know if something happens...
Do any of you play chess so much that you dream about chess moves in your sleep? Just curious.
