I bought the family a chess set at the store. I the rules that came with the set say a pawn can only be promoted in the top left white opponents square? Why does it say this?
That’s what I thought. My son is great at chess and I finally was beating his butt. My wife said how can I have multiple queens. I informed her of the rules so she pulls them out of this set I bought and it said this nonsense “the pawn, when a pawn moves to the light square in the upper left corner of the game board opposite (on opponent’s first row), the player may substitute any other piece for it except the king”
