What kind of beans do you like best in chili? Has anybody tried black beans?

I can't believe none of you chess heads eat chili.

Have you ever made it with black beans?

I go for Lousiana red beans myself. Can't remember if I have tried it with black beans, but for me I don't think the texture would go with chili.

I haven't tried them either, but an idiot I know says I should. I also like red beans.

Kidney beans are a chili staple and a can of those are mandatory, but from there I tend to mix it up (often opting for a six-bean-medley).  The best batch of chili I ever made, though, was in fact with black beans just a couple of months ago.  They really are good.

Any Texan will tell you, however, that the only kind of beans that go in chili are no beans.  Don't listen to them.

Thanks. I've got a bunch of black beans, so I'll give it a try. Beans in chili is a lot better for than no bean anyway.

Yeah, I'd recommend giving it a go -- it really turned out well.  I use them in burritos from time to time as well with much success.

Black bean soup is excellent too.

There are many ways, but this is how I do it. One pound browned, coursly ground beef, three cans red beans in chili sauce, One large can diced tomatoes, one large onion, choped, pinch of garlic, and chili powder to taste. Put all ingredients in crockpot, and cook on low for about six hours.

I forgot to mention that you can also add one ten ounce can of hot Rotel if you like extra flavor.

Use Pace Picante sauce, its much better!

Of course, you probably don't have either of those... basically throw some hot sauce into a chunky spaghetti sauce.

Well at least you have the most important things. I would starve without tabasco

No cumin!??

Avatar of Conflagration_Planet

It is not forbidden.

The Grobe raises an important point. Cumin is awesome. I put it on my breakfast cereal (not really).

I put in my bean dip when I make it, so a couple tsps. would probably help the chili, as well. Didn't even think of it before.
