Moi? Cynic or not, it's nice not to see the stuff that used be on here.
Congratulations to Chess.com

If you want to discuss politics, or religion, do it on an appropriate website. Chess.com has the group where you can discuss poiltics and religion and still people complain. Its not that they want to discuss those subjects, its that they want to be seen discussing them.

The no politics politic doesn't include the forced change of flags when international, from a simple and good lookin' world icon to a superduperpolitical (corrupted) flag.
Noice!

--- Very good points !
a matter of perspective. political comments and threads have been here for years. the poster you quote has been here for less than a month.
the more stringent enforcement has only happened recently.
godspawn, the group you speak of has, and has had, many issues regarding discussion of politics. To your point about being seen, for some it may be true. in my experience here, many responses are based on belief. as in, "don't let the facts get in the way of my beliefs"!
and, if you are stating one should not post subjects other than chess (like politics), we would expect to only see you in topics about the game, right? if you are referring to tos, save it. the short history of cc has seen many changes you are unaware of, and, while staff is now writing to members that discussion of politics is not allowed, the tos has not changed much over the years. it's that the enforcement has (read: what the hell is allowed now?)

Let's see... how can I twist this and get all offended?
Starting a forum with "I'm sure that the majority of people..." usually offends the majority of people.
not if you work in marketing.

it's possible (s)he may me a retread. it's not easy for me to recognize some. it's also not my job.
thanks for the post, baddy.

and, this subject has now been debated openly and shot down by staff members numerous times where what we may post about certain subjects in the supposedly open forums has been decided.
some may not like it but it's the way it is now.

and at the risk of upsetting the minority, I repeat, the majority on here must be pleased at the absence of homophobia, sexism and racism which all used to litter these forums. And yes godspawn, I want that to be heard.
Also good I feel that we're no longer subjected to endless postings about the various number of gods. It's the rules y'see, that are now being implemented. Before a couple of weeks ago the religious types were given free reign to clog up the forums professing their love of one of the gods. I'm sure that if people want to be heard about their love of a god then there are area's that they can do it without breaking rules.

Quite like Thor myself. A no-messing type of fella some would say I hope discussing different gods attributes aren't deemed as discussing religion as there's no intent to break any rules.

In fact I'd say it's much better these days. In the past this thread would have been subject to abusive remarks and insults, some individuals seemingly unable to conduct a civilised conversation. I'm sure any such remarks will be noted and actioned by Staff.

Though Staff's job has been made much easier as most people have deserted the forums; 'Off topic' hardly a 'forum' anymore, I can't think why
I'm sure that the majority of people who look at the forums will be pleased to see the new stance taken by Staff. We now no longer have the racist bile that one time was rife throughout these forums. Fascist types who seemingly got away with posting whatever they wanted, which included abuse and threats plus a constant stream of racism, are now curtailed.
I'm sure the majority are pleased about this, especially as Chess.com is an international site, with players here from all over the world, having different skin colour, nationality and religion. I think we can all say that now the forums are monitored so strictly that there's not a chance of any of these 'orrible types surviving for very long. I feel confident that their offensive posts will be deleted and the culprits 'muted'.
Some may miss the polite discussion that used to occur here. Many threads having thousands of 'hits', such was the interest and good natured comments, are now sadly a thing of the past. Many comments objecting to material and comments on display were deemed 'political', but not the original posts it seems. 'The baby has been thrown out with the bath water. Some would argue that the forums are no longer interesting, that polite debate has also been banned, which is a shame I feel.
For those of us who miss the chance to discuss with others on the forums, take heart. If the polite and well mannered people on here hadn't raised concerns to Staff about the objectionable individuals then we'd still see those disgusting comments and pictures all over the forums. So well done Staff for listening and acting, and well done to customers for getting their voices heard. I'd say it was a victory.
