Back from getting my Pfizer shot.

It didn't turn me into a mutant! I feel cheated... the Internets lied to me!

Look at the bright side.  You now have your own govt. owned satellite keeping tabs on you 25 hours a day.

@BlindThief, how would you define "forced"?

I would be surprised if to see people being held down and injected against their will.

Sure, your dystopian fantasy. Why don’t you throw in a few more cameras, a ministry of peace, and some clown named John Galt.

But let’s cut it. Governments as institutions have legitimate interests that they may pursue. Whatever mental gymnastics you want to do to make yourself believe Covid is no big deal doesn’t change those government interests or Covid’s severity. Thus, governments—like people—have a compelling interest in reducing covid (more economic spending, less illness, less mutation, less death). A mandatory vaccination program is the least restrictive way to do this.

Now, by contrast, the antivaxxers have said for the past year that individual responsibility and not mandates were the way to reduce Covid. They had two months to prove it after Covid restrictions were lifted, and they caused a 15-fold increase in Covid in a matter of weeks.

And that brings me to my point, governments don’t cater to you they (should) cater to society at large. Just cause you don’t like something the government does does not mean that government action is tyranny. Being forced to wear a mask is not an infringement of some sacred right, particularly when the science shows it reduces transmissions and you can still protest wearing one.

I get that antivaxxers want Covid spreading (I’ve seen and heard them, there’s no other explanation), but nobody else does and governments have good reasons (health, economic, safety, national security) for wanting Covid gone. I’m honestly peeved that despite being vaxed, I have to start wearing a mask again because the plague rats in our society ruined it for everyone else; I’m over mollycoddling your feelings.

I read where health care workers are being told that they will be required to be vaccinated.  I dont read anything about a mass exodus of health care workers leaving.  I do know of some state workers that are whining about being vaccinated.  But i can guarantee you that NONE of them will walk away from those cushy overpaid, and over protected jobs.

One of my best friends for over 45 years is now an RN in Texas, and if anything is going to make her walk away from the job, it's the constant and neverending influx of patients who are still trying to say Covid is isn't real, they don't have it, etc.

Imagine you are a healthcare worker that has been completely slammed since early 2020, who has to isolate from their own family a lot of the time, etc.  Shift after shift, day after day, week after week, month after month after month, you work impossibly long hours and watch people dying and in misery, and you try to help them, comfort their families, etc.  Then finally, a vaccine!  Then 2, 3, 4 vaccines!  Relief is on the way...thank god it's going to finally start getting better...

But no.  The influx just keeps going, and it's endless.  But now, it's full of people who are fighting you every step of the way, and who are willfully letting themselves get sick by avoiding the vaccine.  Yet you still have to keep going, working the same hours, isolating from family/friends, and now the light at the end of the tunnel has been snatched away from you...and it gets harder and harder not to be angry and resentful at people who are suffering and need your help...

It's truly a nightmare...and a lot of healthcare workers are getting PTSD-like symptoms, etc. from this.

Though I'm sure they are out there.  It just baffles me that we still have people that think its all a hoax.  And yes, the true "heroes" in all of this are the health care workers.  Risking their lives so "you" can still think its all made up.

The most costly war in US history, the 1861-1865 US Civil War, caused 655,000 military deaths (estimated) in four and a half years. So far, in half that time, 645,000 Americans have died of COVID-19.

I am the first to admit that maybe my perspective on this isn't what it should be?

I live alone, and I work alone.  I always had a job to come to while others didn't and even worse, lost jobs.

No one close to me died of covid.  Though i do know some that did die from it.

For better or worse, not much changed for me in the last 18+ months.  I have been very blessed through all of this.

I wonder how much has to happen before people quit thinking this is made up?

PORTLAND, Ore. — Facing a 990% increase in coronavirus hospitalizations since July 9, Oregon leaders have deployed the National Guard to hospitals, dispatched crisis teams to the hardest-hit regions of the state and ordered educators and health care workers to get vaccinated or lose their jobs.

Correct you are. Btw- Portland is the arm pit of the NW USA. Fact: lost two relatives to COVID, three others recovered,. I got the twoStep shot based on medical advice due to my “underlying conditions.” I was terribly sick for four days after the second round, sickest I’ve been since i can’t remember. the medically smart people then said, well maybe it wasn’t a good idea for you, but you wont get the virus now. Really? In my area, 25% of the new diagnosed positive cases are vaccinated individuals. I’ve sworn not to get the boosters, but soon everyone will likely be required to do it or lose their job. I now work 100% from home and always mask up and keep distance from people. The area hospitals are once again overfilled and doctor’s offices are limiting what type of patients they’ll see. I understand freedom and the spirit of personal choice (keep your laws off my body) but i also shake my head at some (i said some, not all mind you) of the complete idiots who take joy in jeopardizing those around them by flaunting such freedom. If one chooses not to get jabbed or wear a mask, i support their right to do so. But i also am adamant that those same people respect the rest of society’s choices as well. We need to pull together to get through it, sadly all we’ll see, hear, and read about are daily reports of angst, disregard, and wanton irresponsible behavior from too many people.

Okay, there. Got that off my mind and feel better now.

I have no problem with your outlook.  It's the people that actively rail against the measures being recommended by experts and try to get people to turn away from them that are the worst by far.  Ironic that you posted the story about Oregon, given that the most prolific misinformation evangelists here on the forums happen to be from the Pacific Northwest (or claim to be, anyway).  I'm sorry for all the sane people there, like Ziryab happy.png.

I think its just human nature.  When do we(for the most part) start foundations to fight disease?  When someone close dies from it.  When do we(for the most part) starting running marathons for cancer?  When someone close dies from it.

As far as oregon goes?  We refer to it as San Francisco North.

Portland at his point, maybe wink.pngHistorically, there's a disturbing trend of white enclaves espousing various Fascist philosophies elsewhere in the state.

Almost 500 kids in one week tested positive in Oregon.  Why is it not surprising and not an especially high number either?
