With all the commotion last week about the virus being leaked from a Chinese lab, I was surprised to see THIS..... saying the virus originated from animals. https://www.yahoo.com/news/data-links-pandemic-origins-raccoon-113724388.html
Covid-19 Discussion (moderated)

Here in Dubai covid barely exists. No one uses masks. In 2020 when I was still in Iraq (Erbil) they did not know where to take protection, COVID or the crisis. Although like a year ago my father suggested we move to Dubai. No one wears masks anymore. I don't know about my hometown Erbil though.

Forgot to add this but I'm not Kurdish. My father used to live in Iraq, a normal middle class life until we had to move north because of the Iraqi war by the US.... Wasn't born at that time though. We moved to Erbil in 2004

How would one actually know what level Covid exists at in Dubai if nobody is wearing masks or (assumedly) taking Covid tests when they get sick anymore? If you are vaccinated, your chances of have Covid affect you in a way that is easily distinguishable from the flu are minor.

When the news say how much covid cases are. Look at the stats. Even WHO said that covid is not active anymore.

Testing statistics are not accurate from country to country. Many countries have under reported Covid cases since the outbreak started. The UAE is reporting a Covid death rate lower than India, who has *way* underreported Covid cases and deaths, for example. North Korea has reported 3 deaths/million cases, etc.
If you have a link for the WHO saying Covid "is not active", then post it.

The UAE has carried out more tests per 1 million population than almost any other Country, including USA.

I think it will s about time that we stop looking at total deaths and start looking at this properly.
Age group threat. How does this effect a healthy person in each age group.
COVID was never an issue for a healthy person under 30. Pretty much everyone who died was over 65 or had health issues. Sure, there is the rare case of otherwise healthy looking person actually dying, but you don't base policy on the 1 in a 100 thousand case.
COVID is no longer new. It is not nearly the issue it used to be. Time to get on with life.

There are reasons for that. Relative to its small population, UAE has a lot of foreign travelers and workers that must be tested multiple times coming and going. Almost 90% of the population are not citizens.

You are incorrect about Covid-19 not affecting anyone under 65 or with significant health issues (especially the early variants), but if truly you feel that way, then logic would dictate you stop posting here. You are perpetuating a thread that went almost 2 weeks without a post before yesterday.

I realize that, I visit regularly; I was only responding to comrade blazorbyte's comment that "Here in Dubai covid barely exists".

And I was only responding to your comment, so that the large ratio of posters that would assume your comment meant that the UAE is somehow a lot more rigorous in their efforts would understand why the tests/million is so high there.

Imma tell you to your face this forum is pointless
that comment is not helpful

Heads Up....new variant.... https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/everyone-kind-tired-given-covid-210004214.html

I bet nobody saw THIS coming... https://www.yahoo.com/news/hiv-drug-may-help-fight-dementia--and-other-good-news-you-may-have-missed-220027248.html

They definitely need a new super bug to scare people.
Nobody cares about COVID anymore. Chicken pox has always been a more deadly virus. Now that COVID is no longer new, the population has immunity.

If you are going to claim something like this, show some evidence/link your supporting data. If you have something to contribute, great. If not, move along.

We already have those, it's called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease or mad cow disease. Horrible.
