Hey...maybe Trump did close the border immediately because you had a bunch of dishonest people on the other side of the political isle(along with the media) saying the only reason he was doing it was because he was a racist and a xenophobe?

Trump only barred entry in to the US to foreigners who had travelled in China in the previous two weeks; there were exceptions even to that and there were no restrictions to travellers in and from Europe, even when Italy was the biggest hotspot in the world back in March. Saying he "closed the border" is simply not true.

This is America. We aren’t dictatorial and our leaders do not rule over us like kings.

Trump did exactly as he was recommended at the time:

“The travel restrictions that we put in place in consultation with the president were very measured and incremental,” Azar told reporters on Feb. 7. “These were the uniform recommendations of the career public health officials here at HHS.”

https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/the-facts-on-trumps-travel-restrictions/

Further more from the same article:

“[W]e reiterate our call to all countries not to impose restrictions inconsistent with the International Health Regulations,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told its executive board. “Such restrictions can have the effect of increasing fear and stigma, with little public health benefit. So far, 22 countries have reported such restrictions to WHO. Where such measures have been implemented, we urge that they are short in duration, proportionate to the public health risks, and are reconsidered regularly as the situation evolves.”

So stop playing make believe that everyone was on the same page.

From the same article and quoted from John’s Hopkins:

Nuzzo, Feb. 5: [W]e need to seriously reexamine the current policy of banning travel from China and quarantining returning travelers. All of the evidence we have indicates that travel restrictions and quarantines directed at individual countries are unlikely to keep the virus out of our borders. These measures may exacerbate the epidemic’s social and economic tolls and can make us less safe. Simply put, this virus is spreading too quickly and too silently, and our surveillance is too limited for us to truly know which countries have active transmission and which don’t. The virus could enter the U.S. from other parts of the world not on our restricted list, and it may already be circulating here.

“States.

… We often see, when we have emerging disease outbreaks, our first instinct is to try to lock down travel to prevent the introduction of virus to our country. And that is a completely understandable instinct. I have never seen instances in which that has worked when we are talking about a virus at this scale.”

Listen to the experts right?

Raise you one... YOU PROVE IT. This works both ways. You believe what you’re told. I happen to cast doubt on the numbers. As I stated, I watched on live TV the lady say “we are counting all deaths as COVID”. There are lots of articles from Dr’s REFUSING to classify deaths as COVID. An individual who reached the end of their rope with life commits suicide and the medical profession chocks it up to COVID? Cmon man. Really? The other issue here is CENSORSHIP. We’re being told what they want you to hear. Deep think this just a little. You’ll see where this is going. I don’t know you, you might not care where this is headed. Heard immunity, yes. Heard mentality... NO. Peace

I don't think you get it.  The burden of proof is on you.  Link legit sources for any claims you make on the thread, or you won't be posting here anymore.  Saying "the lady on TV said it" is not going to cut it.

And...it's "herd" immunity/mentality.  If you don't know that, you really are not going to last long in this discussion.

Also comparing America to Australia is ridiculous.

We have three times as many VISITORS every year than the entire population of that country.

And Australia has kangaroos. It’s like, they’re sharp clawed bipedal dogs that will jump in the air to give you a Superman punch. And they’re not even the scariest things in Straya, they have giant spiders, and worse yet, drop bears.

I'll reply to/deal with your posts later.  In the meantime, your scattershot short replies are not doing you any favors wink.png

Edit:  case in point in your very next post.

But at least you attempt to link legit information.

No doubt Covid is the least of your concerns while walking around in Australia

For gods sake their BIRDS once defeated an army...

I linked a bunch of quotes from medical experts in this country....the ones our elected leaders are supposed to listen to.

If you find that too hard to follow I don’t know what to tell you.

I don't find anything you say hard to follow at all...just hard to accept as rational and coherent.  Linking legit information/quotes does not necessarily mean you are connecting it/them to anything worthwhile or even in context for this discussion.  It's just the minimum requirement for participating.

If you are just here to bark at the moon, you're doing a good job wink.png.

So you can’t follow how quotes about locking down the economy are related in any way to each other or the previous posts which were discussing the merits of early lockdowns.

I see now.

And why are you repetitively winking at me?

You trying to tell me you like me?

I'm telling you you are posting too often, and not very coherently.  So, fix it, or start your own thread and we'll all see how many people actually want to read your meandering diatribes.

We're posting in the public thread, so it does not always follow that emoticons are directed at you.  In fact, in this case I am specifically not winking at you, but at the other posters who are putting up with what I must assume is an alchohol-fueled late night/early morning bender on your part.

Liking you...that would be a tall order.

Opoooh and here come the insults...how very quaint.

Pardon me if I might seem a little tired of listening to people who hide in their homes eating bon bons and telling me how t hi mega are in my own country when I’ve been an essential worker since day 1 working in the hardest hit city on earth.

Telling you how what?

I notice you didn't deny my assumption.  You started the ruckus when you barreled into this thread, so you're only reaping what you've sown.  I'm just telling you it's getting old, and that if this is all you've got, strident chest-thumping and a chip on your shoulder, I'm not sure whether anyone is interested.

I refuse to even go back and correct it.

Trump did exactly as he was recommended at the time:

The problem here is that no decisive measures were taken in the time of crisis, because they were too worried about being appealing to the voters. And "following recommendations" seems like a really convenient excuse. If I recall correctly the Nazi WW2 ringleaders used the exact same argument in Nuremberg - but except in that case it didn't work.

Let's see if I can translate...

"I'm just belligerent with little redeeming conversational input, and wish to be blocked"

What do you know, that wasn't so difficult.  Deciphered and done.

This *is* America.
