Maybe more discerning people have finally learned to sit on their hands when claims about a miracle drug hit the media and wait to see if it actually bears out with real evidence that is not slanted or anecdotal.

What a topical comment. I spend almost all day every day not wearing a mask. Not because I'm anti mask for other people, but because I'm around places and people that don't require it. But today (about 2 hours ago) I went to the Kwiki Mart to get a couple things. As I was walking out, someone else was walking in, and gave me sort of a strange look. I didn't think much of it until I got back into the car. I was looking at the entrance to the store, noticing people going in, and it hit me. I didn't have a mask on the whole time, and didn't even realize it. Nobody said anything.

So I've been thinking about that. The changes to society. Do I have the covid and gave it to someone else? Have we got to the point where a deadly disease is not even noticeable or worth a second thought? How malleable are people that they will do anything to appease their masters? I know it's only one instance, but I can't help but reflect on why I went into the store with no mask when our state mandates a mask. Is it because I was distracted? Is it because I am so used to not wearing one? Or is it because subconsciously I think they don't do any good? Anyway, weird day among weird times.

I'm not sure how you figure that's wrong. We are already seeing the negative consequences. Businesses gone. Lives ruined. Mental health issues. That's severe consequences. Living under a rock might prevent you from seeing it, but you living under a rock wont prevent everyone else from seeing it.

Last night we witnessed first hand what I thought would probably happen. Many months ago I figured some people would reach their breaking point before others. In our state, certain counties are under certain restrictions. One county has restaurant restrictions where it's either be closed, or take out only. But we went to a restaurant last night that reached the end of their rope, clearly disregarding the requirement.  They were open and it was SLAMMED. People were craving that, they were extremely supportive of that business, and very grateful that people are finally standing up. You have to look at it from others point of view. When someone gets to the point where they have nothing left to lose, they do things you  might not agree with. The owner can go bankrupt, let all his employees go, or he can open up in defiance. What's the difference? At least this way he has a fighting chance to feed his family.

When I said there will be consequences, that means there WILL be consequences.

so, the "breaking point" is that you must go to a restaurant? for a meal you are willing to risk infections?

i doubt you, the other patrons, or the owner had "nothing left to lose".

this whole argument is so daft it is hard to think anyone can believe it. it's as if the virus does not exist, or, if you get it, you will recover quickly.

infection rates in the u.s. spiked after thanksgiving. deaths did, too.

infection rates are now spiking again after christmas. deaths, too.

stop pretending these numbers are made up, or that those people would have died anyway, or that most recover quickly.

please. stop.

your whole argument is based on economics and living the life you had. this is a massive fail. public safety is #1, no? rhetorical question! you've already answered with your need to go to a restaurant. the idea that covid is somehow tied to economics is the work of the devil, which is what you are doing. now, if you are in favor of your local businesses doing well, how about supporting programs designed to give them money to *gasp* stay closed?

try cooking as the next covid program is rolled out while infections continue to rise.

quite an interesting post.

how are we to know? and, are we required to change our responses if one is mentally challenged, as wa wrote?

and, where are the parents if this is true?

if one joins a discussion, they are then subject to all questions some might put to them based on their posts.

i have responded to you on this warning regarding this issue before.

i have not seen the posts you have edited or deleted, but the issue is the same-

you cannot separate covid from politics! how governments roll out vaccinations and how all is handled is about government.

as i wrote to you previously, this is a topic where i think staff should allow comments about politics as it relates to the pandemic. there is no separation on this as it is a worldwide issue that is at the fore of everything we do. any government response matters. that is not a political statement in and of itself.

if i missed some outrageous posts that you deleted, i apologize in advance.

No. I forgot I wrote that. I didn't think it would happen so soon. What I meant about consequences and breaking point is exactly what we have seen with riots and demonstrations. I couldn't predict exactly what form it would take, but the form it's taken has not surprised me at all. I expect there will be much more.

Great day today isn't it Patriot : ) Hope today is as good as yesterday, or the day before!

lfPatriotGames

DarkKnight, I suppose today is a good as yesterday. I depends on what you like. I did notice gas prices immediately rose. Probably from actions that limit supply. That probably also contributed to the immediate rise in steel prices too. So overall costs of almost everything is going to go up, which is good for stockholders of those companies, but not so great for ordinary working people, who have come to rely on affordable energy. Also in our state, yesterday was good because it was announced that older people and vulnerable people will not be getting the covid vaccine first. Instead, it's good news for cooks, janitors, and other younger healthier people who work at schools. It's a bit of a head scratcher for some because the decision is based on wanting to open up schools very quickly, and putting off vaccinating those who are most vulnerable. Fortunately we have a surplus of vaccines, as we've only administered a fraction of what is available. So those who are most vulnerable get to watch other people get it first, and at the same time, don't have to worry about whether or not there is vaccine available. So yes, in some ways I guess you could say today is a great day. It just depends on your priorities.

Like I said over the 9 months, we are going into a period of inflation, it will be massive at some point, just hard to predict when it will peak and how bad it will be. Doesn't really matter a lot who is in power at this point (just a little maybe), the die is already cast. Our size of government and deficit in the U.S. is so massive that it will be impossible to pay unless we "monetize" it (basically print up a lot more money). Taxes only pay half of what we send now, the rest is conjured with the stroke of a pen. This will go on quietly behind closed doors like it has been and John Q. Public will not know about it until it is too late. Buy Silver now, either physical or options, whatever you are comfortable with....price will likely double by the end of the year??? Also if you are thinking of refinancing or buying a house now is good, rates will go sky high with inflation. Incidentally, our state is doing Health care workers and nursing homes first (done), 75 and older (ongoing) and over 65 beginning sometime in February, so being 66, I will get it soon, maybe?

Who all agree with masks and social distancing? 😷

If that is directed at me, I have always said that I wear a mask in public and everyone should. I also presented scientific studies out of commonly excepted journal articles for information indicating that masks are only on average 50% effective at stopping droplets forced from your lungs, but more or less so depending on the type (25% to 75% range). No need to go over it again as everybody is free to do their own research and it childish to keep repeating readily available scientific information. It would appear that social distancing is by far better, which personally is what I try to do. Lucky to have a wife that seems immune to almost everything and a son that is 25 to do most of the errands.

Unfortunately, many people have taken it upon themselves to spread misinformation, which is partly why this forum has gone as long as it has. We must continue to check those that spread misinformation and set the record straight. I've done this, for at least 50+ forum pages against certain people which I will not name, but they know who they are. For those that are into the real facts however, it is fact that masks work, social distancing works, and not going to social gatherings work to reduce spread. With the new variants coming out of the woodwork, it is important that we once and for all come together to meet this virus head on, or else we will be seeing thousands and thousands of more needless deaths, with or without the vaccines.

Why do they spread such misinformation on purpose? Do you suspect some bigger players behind the scenes?
