Bigboy I agree with your view of religion.

You should believe in whatever you choose to believe in as long as it makes you a better person and does not bring harm to others. While my beliefs may be different from other's beliefs, I respect their beliefs. I believe that, as human beings, we are subject to the pitfalls of our emotions and these emotions can come up when we speak of higher powers thus leading to debate over whose higher power is the right one. I say live and let live, respect you fellow human's personal beliefs, and leave politics and religion at the door when you sit down to a game of chess. I suspect this topic will continue for quite a few more pages.

Sure I believe in religion! I just don't believe any of them have got everything right. I'm more philosophical in nature than religious. Religion necessitates belief; belief without reason is rarely desirable if ever and belief because of reason is not really belief. (If you acknowledge reason by acknowledging reason to a degree, you, necessarily by the nature of reason, acknowledge the need for reason in general and would not therefor accept a little reason as suffucient) In other words, I'm Agnostic/Skeptic. Of course I'm not completely sure about that, but I guess that makes it true... unless it doesn't.

Or does it?

Religion is a thorny topic, but at the end of the day most of it is based on what people choose to believe and not on evidence.  One thing is for sure, the world is not 4,500 years old...

The Wiccans have a saying " 'An it harm none, do what you will", which seems fair enough.  Believe what you like, as long as it harms no-one including yourself and the world around you.

Personally, being of a scientific and philosophical bent, I guess you could call me a Zen Pantheist. Cool

As a chess player, I do not accept anything just because it is written in a book, or is a centuries old tradition or a tribal elder tells me so, but after observation and analysis if I find that anything, anything agrees with reason and is conductive to the good and benefit of all, then I accept it and use it.

I am an unequivocal atheist. However, I'm perfectly content to let others believe what they will, so long as they don't attempt to impose their beliefs on yours truly.

It is not for us to Impose any Views or beliefs on anybody what so ever. And I agree 100% with you hooperxxx.

This is my second post on this particular topic.  This is what I'm talking about, warning that any talk on religion or politics will go nowhere.  batgirl sang "Blowin' In The Wind", now I sing "Nowhere Man".  Let's respect each other's beliefs, whatever they are called.  Sealed

i think you are lost BigBoy!

catholics , baptists ,methodists and other parts of the church are the same one church that are united in Jesus Christ our Lord!

They are just confused with the Holy Bible as all people, because everyone is different and understands differently!

I most certainly do not. I just Believe in Jesus or God.

I Think Religion is man made.

But I am not ashamed to call myself a Christian.

Why doe's Christ have to come first in a Christian life.  Answer is...   I am Nothing without Christ  first in my life.  And Finaly

A little reminder to all Christians  7 days without prayer makes one weak.

I don't want to be seen as "intolerant" or whatever, but I'd ask why you assume you know ANYTHING about Yahweh or Jesus without relying on the Bible and random papal "revelations". Sorry, but I find people that base their zany religious beliefs on the Bible about a hair above zero more justified than people who base their zany religious beliefs off of the Bible. And we still need to remember, the Bible is nuts.

I'm not the slighest bit religious. No human religions seem the least bit possible, and I think anything describable as a god, supposing on a strange chance it exists, would be both beyond any worthwhile comprehension and really irrelevant to our lives (this of course the deist, hypothetical "creator" god, not a floods-and-lighting or even a majesty-of-existence-and-beauty-of-love god).

how can it be meaning full, how can it not offend somebody. this is all philosophy, and, therefore doesn`t really have a yey and ney answer, and is to complex to discuss in a chess forum, nobody wins......... but everyone has something to say........(lol)

And the New Testament contains the establishment of the Catholic church by Jesus (God the Son).

I must say two thing. One, Jesus had nothing to do with the creation of Christianity, that was all Paul's doing. Two, reminding Christians about not going to church is propaganda, don't do that! I am Jewish and hate it. Besides, You don't need to go to church, or mosque, or whatever, to know and love your god. Buying things gives people money to feed their families, for example. Thats why I like being Jewish, they don't care how you worship. I personally have some pagan beliefs and no one cares. Just as long as I do tikum olam, repairing the world.
