It is symbolical. When a child is born we mark that day as birthday. Same way, the state came in to existence on 1st November 1956.

What is Kerala Day?
Kerala Day or Kerala Piravi (#KeralaPiravi) is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Kerala as an independent State in the Republic of India on November 1, 1956.
Prior to this unification, Kerala was divided into three independent provinces of Malabar, Cochin, and Travancore. Malabar Presidency constituted the northernmost territories of Kerala that included Thalassery, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The princely State of Cochin occupied the middle section, and the sovereign State of Travancore administered the southern region. After the Independence of India, there arose a strong need to carve new states on a linguistic basis. Thus, a few years after Independence, Kerala was reorganized as one such independent State.
Kerala Piravi Day commemorates this momentous union that led to the formation of modern-day Kerala as we know it.
കേരള സംസ്ഥാനം രൂപീകൃതമായതിന്റെ ഓർമയ്ക്കായാണ് മലയാളികൾ കേരള പിറവി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്. നവംബർ ഒന്നാണ് കേരള പിറവിയായി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്.
കേരളം എന്ന പേര് ലഭിച്ചതിനു പിന്നിൽ നിരവധി ഐതിഹ്യമുണ്ട്. പരശുരാമന്‍ എറിഞ്ഞ മഴു അറബിക്കടലില്‍ വീണ സ്ഥലം കേരളമായി മാറിയെന്നാണ് ഒരു ഐതിഹ്യം. തെങ്ങുകള്‍ ധാരാളമായി കാണുന്നതുകൊണ്ടാണ് കേരളം എന്ന് പേര് ലഭിച്ചതെന്നും, ചേര രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ അധീനതയിലായിരുന്ന ചേരളം പിന്നീട് കേരളമായി മാറിയെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം ലഭിച്ചശേഷം ഭാഷാടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ വിഭജിക്കണമെന്ന ശക്തമായ ആവശ്യം ഉയർന്നിരുന്നു. ഇതേത്തുടർന്ന് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം കിട്ടി രണ്ടു വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ശേഷം 1949ല്‍ തിരു-കൊച്ചി സംസ്ഥാനം രൂപം കൊണ്ടു. പക്ഷേ മലബാര്‍ അപ്പോഴും മദ്രാസ് പ്രസിഡന്‍സിയുടെ ഭാഗമായിരുന്നു. 1956 നവംബർ ഒന്നിന് പഴയ മലബാർ, കൊച്ചി, തിരുവിതാംകൂർ എന്നീ പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ ചേർന്ന് കേരള സംസ്ഥാനം നിലവിൽ വന്നു.
ഇന്ത്യയിലെ മറ്റു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം, ആരോഗ്യം തുടങ്ങി പല കാര്യങ്ങളിലും കേരളം വളരെ മുന്നിലാണെന്നത് ഓരോ മലയാളിക്കും അഭിമാനമേകുന്നതാണ്. ലോകത്തെവിടെയുളള മലയാളികളും കേരള പിറവി ദിനം ആഘോഷപൂർവം കൊണ്ടാടാറുണ്ട്. ഈ ദിനത്തിൽ സ്ത്രീകൾ മലയാളികളുടെ പാരമ്പര്യ വസ്ത്രമായ കസവു സാരിയും പുരുഷന്മാർ കസവു മുണ്ടും ഷർട്ടും ധരിക്കുന്നു. കേരള പിറവി ആശംസയും പരസ്പരം പങ്കുവയ്ക്കുന്നു.
