The cat is the near perfect animal. Evolution over thousands of years has produced an animal with a sleek hunter’s body and a body function that allows it to live with or close to the human population. Body function in the cat is very adaptable to a variety of climates, it allows the cat to thrive on a great number of diverse foodstuffs, and to be successful in combating most parasites and other infections.

Yes, all that is true. But one thing I cannot understand: Why are you cats so crazy about cardboard boxes?
In comparison with other domesticated animals, the cat has suffered little from man’s interference in artificial breeding. In other animals selection for show points, extremes of body shape, speed and stamina, milk production ( as in cows and goats), to name a few , have produced grotesque shapes. The dog , more than other domesticated pets, suffers from selective breeding which has brought about many disease conditions resulting from inborn defects,
And if you were small and they were big they would eat you.
Just something to think about.

The cat’s physiology is beautifully organised, allowing a comfortable and satisfactory existence, but with one extreme, an apparent necessity to breed remorselessly. It is fortunate that there are surgical and medical means of controlling breeding in the feline population.
