'Sorrow' is one of the best songs I have ever heard.

I must say, in the vein of Minor Threat, that Teen Idles are a great band as well.
silentfilmstar13
Bad Religion was my biggest influence growing up.  While I enjoy all of their material, I think my favorite was the album that alienated quite a few people(Stranger Than Fiction).
Randalpants

well the uk subs and cock sparrer are both good punk bands. iv seen them live and loved them!

oh and the exploited another awesome band!

70s punk is what im listening to at the mo and in my opinion is the way better than todays punk cus they sing about reality and dont pretend to be something there not.

does anyone think that todays punk is not punk? and does it have to be played by the usual musicians ie guitar/ drums and bass?

you could argue the fact that the spice girls where punk for saying girl power but does a bit of attitude make you punk?

id be interested to here ur views on punk. thanks for ready this iv u actually bothered. bye!!!!!!!

There are still punk bands around, you just have to look for them.  No, a little attitude does not make you punk, especially when you're making cheesy pop and have dolls, lunchboxes and things of the like sold in your image(Spice Girls; AFI: what's the difference?).  There are many good punk bands still making great music, and I've had the pleasure of sharing a stage with some of them.  I don't think that modern hardcore should be classified as punk.  It's closer to pop-metal.  The Refused, however, fall into that catergory, and I consider them punk.  Who knows?  I don't.  People get down on bands like Blink 182 for being corporate pop with crap lyrics, but can't you say the same about the Ramones?  People come down on Rancid and Anti-Flag for being hypocrites and sell-outs, but the same could be said about the Sex Pistols.  The lines are blurred.  Only one thing is for sure:  The scenesters; or underground elite; or music nazis will always love an underground band until they gain a following, hate them while they're famous, and, when they've slipped into obscurity, rave about how they once slept with the bassist at a party; or drank with them at Gilman;or....

My Favorites would have to be Bad Religion and Minor Threat.  But im also a fan of Social Distortion...
Worthington_Bishop

I absolutely adore a good TV Party with the finest Russian Beluga and expensive China in flight throughout my guest suite.  Put me down for Black Flag.

My favorite Black Flag lyrics:  "I'll get a six pack in me..... welll ALRIGHT!!!"

And let's be clear my good lads: today's buzz music is acne teen-pop rock, not punk.  Grunge was lame average rock (intro, lead solo, finish) which posed as punk, but sounded more like classic rock to me lads.  Real punk goes back my friends:  Minor Threat, early PIL, X, Flipper, early Souixie & The Banchees, The Gun Club, Gang of 4, Native Tongue, The Wipers, early Mission of Burma, many more.

Punk... Yes!

Grunge.... No

Buzz crap.....  No
