we wont see anything of note untill there are a lot less people.what would happen if a new and efficiant feul was invented, say safe neuclear type feul and did away with petrol and coal.that would need to span 20 or more years.

On the nuclear front, Thorium seems to be the way to go.

There's lots of it and is much safer : when you stop bombarding it with neutrons, it stops being 'fertile' (reacting) so you dont run the risk of meltdown.  Which is nice!

Another reason that governments won't invest widescale in alternative energy, is that they can be elected out after 4 years (not saying this is a bad thing, BUT) doing such a conversion would cost the taxpayer a lot of money, and any government who did that would be out at the next election for sure (or at least it would be in the balance enough to make them worry about it and not go for it).

So if we did invest in looking for more efficient ways of using energy, and it would raise tax payer dollars, wouldn't that also do the same thing that high gas prices are doing now....

 1. Higher taxes, would balance out to an equal barrel or oil

2. Higher taxes would also open a door of inflation...Just as the oil is doing to us now, but instead of the government receiving the $ the oil companies are

BTW,

In the UK, we pay approx $7.60 for a US gallon of gas/petrol.

To be honest, i do not believe the problem could truly be solved, because if we look at history, and the first use of energy...we see it has remained the same for years, and if we did start investing into new energy methods as a country and we found one, we would have another BOSTON TEA party, because it would soon be in high demand, and of course the government would love to get extra cash to help void out that trillion $ debt (which i must add, most of it is because of military projects).

After we run out of oil we could switch to making liquid fuel from coal. It would be good if the oil supply starts to go down when the world population starts to go down. The world population is expected to increase till at least 2050, but eventually the percentage of older people will peak and the population will go down as the old people die. It is possible the world population could still be increasing after 2050.

Oh the world population will always increase. We may have to go to laws as china 1 child a family?? who knows...If the world would work more as 1 unit instead of competing nations, things would be a lot more easier and lasting.

I saw on CNN Headline News that a man was forced by the California Solar Shade Act to cut down two Redwood trees. The Redwood trees were planted before the neighbor put up Solar panels. The two Redwood trees probably took more Carbon Dioxide out of the air than the Solar panels will prevent from being put in the air. Redwood trees live for hundreds of years ( if they do not get cut down or burned up in a forest fire ) and every one of those hundreds of years the Redwood trees grow they take an increasing amount of Carbon Dioxide out of the air.

It`s funny how other countries manage to pay Universal Healthcare and welfare systems that poor US citizens can only dream about and yet have avoided US debt levels. Governments increases  taxes to reduce spending to reduce inflation. US taxation levels are too low, especially at the rich end of the market. I thought everyone new that ?

What countries are these may I ask?
