@ Social Panda,

That's the only way to catch the cheats, you agree? But anyway, it's not here, so report all you want. I'm out...

No, I won´t. You won´t get banned.

@Guderian: relax. Kleelof is only making some fun of the chess (not Chess.com) community, and he does it well. And of course you can be a very active chess player without playing online.

No, I disagree.

You don´t reduce the cheating by cheating yourself.

You can do an analysis after the game or do nothing and just trust the automatic system.

Or simply don´t worry at all and just play.

I'm not sure if chess.com does this. Their JS is obviously (or sadly) obfuscated. But I'm sure there's a way to detect when the live chess window loses focus (when the user switches to the engine) and then regains focus (when the user is about to play the engines move).

If a user does that 30 times in a game with ~30 moves then that's highly susp. in particular inbetween moves.

I've never done that myself, but I know GMail/Facebook know even when the browser tab is switched.

But many just use their iPad/Surface/Tablet as an engine. It's much, much easier, in fact, no need to install an engine. Just get a chess app (everyone can, and does, use the AppStore/Google Play/Windows Store) then set it to the strongest setting, and voila.

Fun times.

No, it's not to reduce cheating, and that site does not catch people, especially guest players. Remember, people ARE cheating even playing unrated games as anonymous guests. You cannot get them banned, and you can't even chat as a guest.

If you don't care about wasting your time and don't consider it an insult to be cheated on, that's YOUR problem. But I am sure the majority of people do not like to be cheated on, including me.

A couple of months ago I saw a video of some software someone was using that made their moves on Chess.com.

I looked at their code once because I wanted to make some software that would allow blind people to play. It is actually not that difficult to read the board then simply have your software click on the correct squares to move pieces.

WORST PART: Even if someone is caught cheating, they'll make a new account and continue.

I think we can come to the conclusion that cheating is just rampant. It's not just chess.com, you will get cheated everywhere. In fact a pharmacist once wanted to cheat me out of my 1mg Tafil/Alprazolam tablets script, giving me a bottle of 1mg Tavor/Lorazepam tablets. I was like what the fuck is that.

My estimation is 10-15% players at least and at all rating levels, do cheat (could be more). It's just......human nature in all its glory. And I wonder why people love to blame God for the state of the world, when they should be blaming themselves....

Hmm, as a windows application? With reading the board you mean by comparing the images on the 64 squares against known images? That's kinda hackish and then making the clicks programatically with SendInput()/mouse_event() is ultra hackish and error prone to pop-ups and all sorts of stuff.

I actually did that once though, in a strategy game - where my opponent kept shooting my last building and I had to keep clicking to repair it - I had a ton of funds to last for hours. I quickly wrote a program to do the clicks for me and went to sleep. After waking up I noticed my opponent had lost connection when I was about to run out of funds shortly and I had been awarded with the win. Laughing

I used some simple math to try predicting the likelihood and came up with 14%. After playing here for a few years, that seems about right also.

When Yahoo Chess was around, there were TONS of cheats, even some who hacked the Yahoo Java applet and used their engine to move automatically!

You can check the HTML source of the chessboard. You will find all the DIVS for the board are labeled with the coordinates of the board. When a piece is moved, it's image is moved to a new DIV. It is a very easy task to parse that HTML and detect when a move is made.

As for the clicking, hackish or not, it can be done and in the video, it seemed to work quite well.

I could barely maintain a 1200 rating on yahoo, due to the severity of the problem. I once used a engine, as an experiment on yahoo, just to see what happened, I played someone to a draw for about 45 minutes. I tried going it on my own for two minutes and was checkmated. I pointed it out to the guy and he laughed saying, " his engine was better" ....

people that play with a program on line want to play speed chess. I always play slow time controls and this keeps them away. I usually play at least 35/35 they definately do not want this...

Can anyone name any game where cheating with a computer online isn't possible other than fixed dice or cards?
