thought sharon was a guys name :D
GO AHEAD BASH THE MILITARY AND THE TEACHERS !!!

I knew a guy named Sharon. He would try to save face by making up off-beat explanations to cover awkward errors.

lol... well, wasn't John Wayn's original name... Marrion or something..lol. Kidding a side... Sharon is definitly a woman's name.

tryst isnt accusiing individuals pawn. i saw no names mentioned. you seem to be confused. these are men and women capable of great horrors and great goodness. just like the rest of us. still depends on your point of view. always keep an open mind. msjean should be proud of her granddad. he was a brave man. tryst has a right to his opinion just like you do. so do i. so does every american. what makes this country great.
Kevin... trysts is a woman. You have to go ahead and read a profile or two before you assign genders to people...lol.
Kevin... you are probably right.... absolutely right. Trysts isnt against any individual soldier or sailer.... nawwwww. She loves and supports each one of 'em.
Just ask her. For example... if two army rangers came into her bar she would gladly thank them and shower them with praise. No name calling, evil thoughts.. nope... none of that negative stuff.
Go ahead trysts... tell kevin how much you respect individual navy sailors, army soldiers, marines, special forces etc.
I have an immense amount of respect for those individual soldiers who would rather go AWOL, and be court-martialed, rather than murder someone, when they finally realized that it was criminal. And those people drafted into Vietnam who had the same epiphany.

serving aclohol to someone, never knowing weather he/she will drive a car and killed someone, murder ?

I don't know what you're trying to say.

Was it wrong to kill Osama bin Laden?
Are you asking me, or the kidney disease that more than likely killed him some time ago?

With all due respect, the epiphany many of them had was, "I don't want to get my ass blown off."

You're prescious!

Nawwww... trysts.... Im talking about your average individual soldier/sailor... that didn't go AWOL... but did his duty and served the UNITED States of America. Just your average nothing special soldier. Even one that served in 'Nam.
Go a head trysts.. tell kevin how much you respect THAT individual.

Hi I've got to say I really understand what trysts is trying to get at here, but I think she's going a little over board. In fact I think both side are going a bit over the top. The point about WW2 veterans and such is well taken and true. That was clearly an honorable mission and it would take a really closed minded person to not understand that the Germans and axis powers needed to be stopped.
However this dispute is not about soldiars who by and large do not make command decisisons. The problem is that over the last 50 years or so it has become normal for wars and miltary adventures to be taken on by our country (I'm an American citizen) for largely POLITICAL reasons. The act of sending force is no longer about preserving our safety or the safety of our allies. It has become about political capitol and winning elections and campaign contributions. This is sickening and it is the nauseating reality of our use of power since, certainly, the vietnam war that has caused so many of our good citizens to routinely distrust the military because of the corrupt power that commands it.
I'm not one of those who claims that there are no just wars. However our selectivity about where and when we'll commit troops sickens me. Rawanda, the congo, darfur...these are places where we really could and I'd argue should have gone in to help. Contrast this with, Vietnam, Iraq (2), Granada (!), Panama!, these were nothing but political power plays and the lives taken as such were wasted and on our american hands.

+1
Sharon's a nice lady, and I think people would agree with much of what she has to say if she were less belligerant.

The U.S. military sucks. Fifty years of people signing up, not to protect this country, but to murder people who have not done any harm to this country. That wonderful U.S. military has done nothing but but invade sovereign nations, murdering millions of men, women and children for a sick, twisted imperialistic/corporate agenda. Tearing apart families in tragically unforgettable slaughter.
You've met eighteen year old kids right? They don't join the military to rape women, burn houses and villages, and kill foreign boys of the same age--often much younger, admittedly.
Those kids join the military because they don't have many economically viable choices. Many of the boys have recently knocked up their lady friends and need health insurance.
They sacrifice their youthful exuberance and idealism on a gamble for a brighter future. They are not sadists who wish to chew the bones of the dead.
I'm not big on the patriotism shtick either, but I do recognize that a standing military is a necessity in a world peopled by...people. I also recognize that I owe a great debt to those who have died so that I may live in relative peace.
The world ain't all rainbows and ice-cream anyway, so I'd much rather that the country from which I hail have the strongest military on the planet.
Though I deplore your view of the men and women who serve in the U.S. armed forces, I'll do my damndest to defend your right to speak (write) your thoughts.
It would be a shame if we lived in a land where you were silenced for speaking your mind.
Edit: Whoops, guess I'm just parroting electricpawn. I didn't read the whole thing until I'd already posted. Well...I guess great minds think alike:P

trysts - the anti-solution
and I agree the teachers are being singled out.
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU "themothman" Oh Baby thanks for bringing us back to the point ! Teachers work hard and do their best for the most part this I believe is true. The system is at fault, The system is a mess and complaining about teachers will not fix that !
As for the military...I am grateful that someone had the balls to stand up to terrorism. You can count on the fact that Its not over yet..
As for Sharon...Hey GF!!! I leave the house for the evening and you go nuts. Look you have them all at your feet ,screamimg your name, begging you to stop..(Well someone was screaming Kevins name , while he was defending yours, but he is gender challenged where you're concerned). They are glued to the keyboard awaiting your next text :)
You're amazing ! Keep on texting Tryst...Sharon..him..she whatever

This topic is going to explode...
As for freedom. We are not free. We can only do what we wish as long as it is deemed ok by those up top of the pyramid. "we are all equal but some are more equal than others" - Animal Farm.
A government is just a group of people who are notably ungoverned, and as such may do as they wish within the limits of their power for their own gain.
The pawns of the millitary are not to be abused for doing their job and dying for whatever cause a government deems worthy.
eletricpawn-"It's not as simple as it seems. Poppy growers usually borrow money from warlords to buy seeds. If we destroy the poppy fields, they still owe the money. Aghanistan is not exactly an enlightened country with regard to women's rights, so if the farmers can't pay the warlords with cash they have to give them their daughters." and the women were treated no better when the talibans were in control.
The Taliban have a terrible record in that regard, but I don't know how much longer we can afford to stay in Afghanistan - financially or politically. I disagree with many of our foreign policy decisions since WWII, but I don't believe young people join the military because they want to kill. They need money for college, they join the National Guard because they need a second income, and yes they are patriotic and want to serve their country. If they are misused by politicians, shame on the politicians.
