What the heck does that mean? Was John hiding behind a tree when he shot Henry? Or was Henry hiding behind a tree when John shot him?
Reword, so that your predicate is not vague.
"Hiding behind a tree, John shot Henry."
Or . . .
"John shot Henry, who was hiding behind a tree."
