Great man theory.

Rev., I gave you a wonderful video and you don't even thank me?
The "Great Man Theory" is rather archaic now, though some philosophers have commented on it in the 20th century. It does find it's wings in Napolean, and the propaganda associated with him. But it is as much a question today, as whether the earth is flat, or not.
One man cannot have much influence in the course of great events. But the propagandists would have you believe in Lincoln, FDR, Mao, Lenin, etc., having been some irresistable forces which paved the way for great turning points in history, so that a king, or emperor, is somehow needed to change the course of history. Just a bunch of BS.

Be not afraid of greatness; some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them." William Shakespeare ...
This states that all great historical events and achievements can be attributed to the effort of one individual 'great man'. The theory opposes the naturalistic approach which places greater emphasis on the environmental context of the achievement.
Which is it? Was Napoleon motivated by inspiration? or was it his environment?
