A whole 3 generals!

Why that almost sounds like a consensus!

I know if I found 3 doctors saying don’t take Covid vaccines then it would SURELY be taken seriously!

https://www.yahoo.com/news/killer-robots-arent-science-fiction-153546704.html    That article says THIS.....                                                                            The reason for the interest? Killer robots — drones, guns and bombs that decide on their own, with artificial brains, whether to attack and kill.             I thought, yeah, that pretty much defines all the paranoid gun nuts and all the 2nd amendment party people.    "Guns who decide on their own with artificial brains weather to kill"......lol.

Ron, I have to admit, you do provide some good comic relief.

I tell ya, I love shooting guns, learning about them but I’d hate to get hit by one

Deep thoughts.

Lol ya ever been pistol whipped?   I haven’t and would like to keep it that way.  Haha.    I am looking at this smith and Wesson hand gun.  It has a light and laser attached to it already.  Man is it nice.    Is five hundo a good price for it?

I wouldn't know.

Statistics say that psychopaths make up 4.5 percent of the US population. I don't know how you quantify that, honestly. Reading this thread makes me consider the number is probably closer to 10 percent.

i think they gravitate to these types of 'discussions' using false arguments in an attempt to reinforce their crazy thoughts.

kinda like ir.

I think a lot of it is plain old fashion trolling. They say dumb and offensive things on purpose (even if they only half way believe them) just to get people to react.

Having so many guns as the US is pointless, obviously, as other countries do fine without them, and no rebellion in humanity has overthrown its government without the aid (or indifference) of the military.

I know that I'm not trolling. And I'm really not sure where you got the idea that gun owners want to overthrow the government. Most gun owners do not want that. I do know why the Second Amendment is in the Bill of Rights, however, and that is to enable the people to secure their rights as defined in the founding documents against people who threaten those rights. It's that simple, and it doesn't matter if the threat comes from a robber on the street, or their own government. If that offends you then so be it.

I wouldn’t other countries do fine without them, it’s just that we don’t do fine with them either, so there’s not much difference except a (false?) sense of security.
America is the land of rebellion against a heavy handed government. We kind of needed our guns, even if we couldn’t have done it without France.
Does anyone consider that guns are the best civilian defense against criminals? Should we use forks or what?
Definitely shouldn’t make it easy to make mass shootings happen, but I think an armed civilian society makes foreign invasion and tyranny harder (which was the intent of its inclusion in our Constitution, actually). I like it to be in the text of our laws. I know some don’t. A responsible individual will practice gun safety… maybe we should teach that in schools, instead of some of the other junk they teach.

It’s strange how people feel the need to explain their laws to others.

Perhaps if they hadn’t had them indoctrinated in to them from such an early age they would understand how ridiculous they sound. Teaching worship of the nation in the schools is the real problem. The people then arming themselves is just a symptom of that problem.

There are so many ways in which we fundamentally disagree, Baptist patriot.

But I feel like the difference is I understand your point of view, while you have no idea what mine is.

It's too bad you can't be bothered to explain your position.

Yeah, that's a very fair point. It's nothing against you. Mostly I just don't care anymore.

Avatar of llama47

Different people are different... even if we had an honest open minded talk, we may not change anything about how the other person thinks. So it's hard for me to care about talking.

And the truth about controversial topics like gun control, is that you can run a society either way. Other countries do fine without many guns. The US does fine with lots of them... sure sometimes a few classrooms full of kids and teachers die for no reason... while that's a tragedy on a community level, it doesn't really matter on a societal level... and while that sounds cold, the proof that it doesn't matter is that nothing has changed for decades.

So either way is fine. It's only an important topic when there's not much else going on in the world... so maybe a future society (a better, more ideal society) will solve it, but I guess we're not there yet. So I'm saying it's not like we can't strive for it (having a "correct" policy on guns), but it's just the cherry on top.

Part of the main problem here is ignorance on the part of anti-gun advocates. They know next to nothing about firearms and how they work, and absolutely nothing about the mindset of a law-abiding gun owner. To the anti-gunner a firearm is a fearsome weapon capable of immense destruction and is to be feared and hated. To the responsible gun owner a firearm is a tool to be used at the proper time and for proper and lawful purposes. It's not scary at all. Most responsible gun owners are not a bunch of bloodthirsty gung-ho want to be military types just looking for a chance to shoot someone. They are peaceful and law-abiding citizens just interested in living their lives enjoying the things they like to enjoy, and exercising their rights as defined by the law.

One of the funnier things is the idea that guns are useful for defense.

If you have a gun, and I don't, and I want to kill you, there's an extremely good chance I'll succeed. All I have to do is walk up behind you and hit you in the back of the head. Easiest thing in the world. I mean what are you imagining? It's a wild west movie? I'm going to loudly announce I'm here to kill you, and invite you out into the street for a duel? That's idiotic.

Or let's say there's shooting going on in a public place, and you want to help shoot the bad guy with your gun. So you run over and... how do you know who to shoot? When the police see you, how do the police know not to shoot you? It's all very silly.

Guns as defense are a joke... now, a well organized militia, that's different (and that's what the 2nd amendment protects).

Avatar of Hehehehehe2024

If self-defense using firearms is so ridiculous then why are there multiple documented cases of people successfully defending themselves and others against criminals, wild animals, and even stopping active shooters with legally owned and lawfully purchased firearms?
