Happy Pride
Nevermind Hiram, after you've blinded yourself you won't have to see gay people anymore.
Maybe you can find a way to make sure you never hear them either?
Many famous queer people in entertainment, from Liberace to Little Richard, Elliott Page to Billy Porter, David Bowie to Elton John, Miley Cyrus to Kenneth Williams ... the list is huge.
I'll go with empathy and the right side of history. ![]()
People do mark their gratitude for veterans. Various memorial events commemorating various battles are had every year throughout the year, as do fundraising events for veterans.
Holidays last various lengths of time often as an accident of history in how they developed, or because of commercial and practical concerns. For example, Christmas and Pride practically last over a month, Halloween lasts about a month, Easter a week or two, St Patrick's Day a day, Darwin Day barely recognised, and so on.
One big thing is that people prefer feasts to fasts and celebrations to memorials. Recalling war dead is sombre compared to many other events and festivals.
Of course, these cultural markers are not mutually exclusive. Celebrate all of them!
For those that celebrate for the next month or two: Happy Pride!
