Heartbroken

Have you ever tried to befriend someone only to have your heart broken? Even after exchanging many messages and getting to know each other. When the question about are we friends was asked and the response was I "guess we are friends" is the response it raises a red flag. We had many conversations before this question was asked. This person told me that they were hard to get to know but seemed to be quite social, open and communicative. If there is a chance of a friendship I would want it to be genuine and not other reasons or circumstances. Haven't spoken to this person in a couple of days after talking for several days straight. I have always been honest and upfront since we started talking. It's hard for me to make friends but I have gotten better since I started playing chess. Not sure what to do

Friendship only. 99% we'll never meet. It would be like that friend you could share things with and talk about anything

As Master Splinter would say, "Sit still and wait for them to come to us." happy.png

For real.

I have had friends reach out to me again after going thru a break-up, marriages, school, job changes, bereavement and parenthood.

Dude, this is online, don’t get too broken up about it. You did nothing wrong. If you actually want to have a friendship (or more) with someone I feel you need to meet in real life

Okay shame if they don't want to keep messaging, but their loss. Besides, you've only just met them too, so you shouldn't be heartbroken so easily. The heartbreaks that hurt most are from those you know best because those are the people you let into your life and you get emotionally close to. Online will probably never compare to in-person because there is a certain human element that online will probably never fully capture.

Ironically, their response "I guess we are friends" might be a good response in their eyes. Some people don't dive into friendships as easily and there is no right or wrong "speed" here. Perhaps that person simply values online differently as well, so they are a bit reluctant to call you a friend compared to if you knew each other in real life. After all, they did say you are friends, even if there is an "I guess" in there. This is much better than if they flat out denied you right then and there.

Everyone is different and that is okay. Keep this in mind and take online interactions with a grain of salt. You can't friend everyone and you'll get heartbroken too many times if you try to become friends with everyone. happy.png

Agreed.  It's wise to be leery of online relationships.

True @Sparty_1 and I'm quoting the quote just because I wanted to say your username is funny @ChrisHansenIsWatchingYou xD
