I have noticed that cats and dogs usually sleep with their back to the wall.
Taking the shape of a ball is a way to lose less heat and make the cold reach the smallest possible area. When in Nature, they sleep in this position to conserve body heat and protect their vital organs.
Considering this good example, I started to sleep the same way. It seems to be the natural way to sleep.

They seems to know that cold and any attack from otherr animal do not come from the wall side. So keeping the face to the side of a possible attack is better.
This position is very strategic because it makes the animal's movements much easier when it's time to get up and get ready to play or deffend itself.
