Good genes or luck!

Thank God for our NHS. Free medical care and medicines at the point of use. Have  never understood why  so many Americans have to bankrupt themselves to save their life. Seems barbaric to me.

I have no problem with my blood pressure but they want to put me on daily insulin injections. I have been resisting that for about 2 years!

You should consider the pen injectors over the syringes.  Much safer and easier to use.

Good idea. What are the disadvantages of insulin injections? At the moment I am on 9 tablets per day.

Avatar of JamieDelarosa

Long-acting insulin requires just one shot per day.  I use that and also have a fast-acting insulin when my blood sugar spikes.

One can accidentally OD on the fast-acting insulin and cause hypoglycemia.  Much less likely with long-acting insulin, such  as Lantus.  Just make sure you have healthy snacks available if you feel "low," like some apple juice or a candy bar.

BTW -I used Metformin pills for years with dicey results.

Try and stay that way!

I'm on 2 different types of metformin. Don't think  either are any damn use.

Two weeks ago my wife had a cataract removed from her right eye, she had 50 vision.  On Tuesday she returns to have the left eye treated .

The op on the right eye has gone well , she will be longsighted after the second op , and will need spectacles to read .

She had her Thyroid gland removed last December as it was showing dangerous cancer cells , all went well but she now takes tablets for life.

Apologies for my ignorance, but what is CKD?

Avatar of pam234

Good news about Mrs petitbonom.

Not sure what the C stands for but I think the KD is kidney disease.

Chronic.

Yes, I think so too Dr because Jamie mentioned it in the context of family hereditary.  Also, glad things worked out well for petitbonom's spouse. happy.png     I could change this to a medical thread if there's no objections.....lol. wink.png

Many of us have reached that time in life when our health is not as good as  wewould like it to be. I just concentrate on breathing and having fun! LOL

Thanks folks for the info.

Yes some of us are at that stage in life where 20 year guarantees dont seem quite so important.

Welcome to Medicare!  Make sure you sign up for Part A (no cost) - at the very least.  Part B has a premium, but it covers things like doctors office visits, lab tests, etc.  Remember Medicare only pays 80% of charges.  So a Medicare Advantage plan may be worthwhile.

After age 40 I only "celebrated" birthdays ending in 0 or 5!

Avatar of RonaldJosephCote

I've had part A for a few yrs.  Part B also covers ambulances and I understand Part C covers prescriptions.

I always round my age to the nearest 0 or 5, so I've been 60 for about 4 years now. I'll be "65" in two years and until about 2028. This is, of course, if I'm still at large...
