in a chess match chat i have going with a Christian i received the following argument. would love to respectfully reply to each of his points but would love any hints advice for replying.i think he is quite vulnerable here because he revealed so much of his particular form of mega belief.
camiller0122: One evidence that God exists is the physical universe. There is no way that non-matter created matter, and/or non-life created life; i.e. something that does not exist cannot become something that does exist. Therefore the entire physical universe must have originated from a non-physical realm. All laws of physics fall apart at the point just before the big bang. Beyond that point in negative time history, the physical universe, matter, and life did not exist in the physical realm. Another evidence of God's existence is the Bible and how it was written as a record of ancient civilizations, as well as forecasts of the future; written over a period of over 1400 years by several dozen people who never met each other; AND they did not understand what they were writing about. The Bible is like a jigsaw puzzle put together by people who did not understand what they were looking at even when it was completed and fulfilled by John the Baptist, Jesus, His parents, the Roman authorities,
camiller0122: ... , His birth, life, death, place of burial, rejection by the Jews, etc. If the scriptures had been written by "some guys who wanted to control people by inventing a religion", then the books would have been written by a particular group of people who fully understood the entirety of their hoax. The Bible is comprised of two sections, one tells what will happen, the other tells how it happened. Therefore the scriptures must have been supernaturally inspired. 3. Personally I can tell you the main evidence of God's existence for me is knowing how I have been transformed in my own personal life in ways that can only be accredited to the promises of God as written in the scriptures. Things in my thoughts and behaviors have changed even when I did not think they needed to change, or did I want them to change. Plus I've witnessed a close friend who was suffering from a constant menstrual cycle that lasted for several months. No doctor could find anything physically wrong with her...
camiller0122: ... I personally witnessed her receiving a complete physical healing one night after a church service at the Calvary Assembly in Winter Park, Florida. Interestingly, she did not even want to be there that night; she was NOT looking for any type of supernatural touch from God; she was not trying to mentally heal herself; it just happened while one of the deacons was praying for her. I know it's hard to believe in things unseen, like God; but I also know that it is impossible to prove that God does not exist; and that God does reveal Himself to His us in His own time. In answer to your questions, yes, I have considered the existence of God; my faith life has had its ups and downs; however since God revealed Himself to me personally, my faith is knowledge. And no, I had not heard of the law of falsefiability; but I did some research on it. The "proof" of God's existence becomes undeniable when God makes it real to us, as He did to me. He can do the same to you.
camiller0122: As for your claim of not seeing any evidence of God's existence, that means you have merely refused to search. It does not mean that God does not exist. Your move.
camiller0122: One point on human difficulty in belief of things unseen: We all believe in our own thoughts. Yet, no one can see his thoughts, and we all KNOW without a doubt that our thoughts are real. This is also true of our minds; can't see it; but we all know it's true. Just a though
