Maybe you just need to find a joke that you like, or something that works well into the conversation, like my example. Besides, how hard could it be? You already have the quick wits!
I do agree that compliments can be sorta difficult, which is why I normally lead with it, instead of add in to the conversation with it.

I already have the quick wits, which I use frequently in conversations as many people know. I think that telling a joke is a different story, though.

Complimenting their profile could be a great idea. I'll have to try it sometime.

The same way as cards.

We all know this person. The bland texter, or messenger. The person you have a hard time talking to because they provide bland responses, leaving you wondering whether you should respond or not. I've had some conversations with people on this site which have made me ask this question. I've been messaging with people I'm just now meeting for the first time but have been unsure of how to deal with their messaging habits. So... here's what I mean.

I got a message from someone I hadn't met before but seemed familiar. Here's how the conversation went.

Her: Hi

Basix: Hello, hello.

Her: Hru

Basix: I'm doing pretty well, thanks for asking. How are you?

Her: Good

Now, after this, I ignored her for a little bit. I thought that since she had messaged me first, she had something to ask me, or something. But after a while, she hadn't said anything at all. So I continued to wait for something, until she said "hello" again. Now, in times like these, I strongly believe that I am not obligated to carry a conversation that I didn't start. I feel that if I am messaged to, the sender should have a topic in mind, and we can go from there. I think it's common courtesy to expect the sender of a message to not say "hello, how are you" and move on with a "good". After this, we had a decent conversation about school and other things. But for the past few days, I've noticed the same repeated cycle.

Hi.

Hello!

hru

I'm ok, thanks for asking. How are you?

Good

2 hours later.

Hello

Hi.

Wyd

Nothing much. What are you up to?

Nothing rn

So I ask again. How do you guys deal with dry texters and messengers like such. They come up so often, and it feels rude to just ignore them all the time.
