How to not be socially awkward

find a common interest
There are many ways to find a common intrest, like I try to see what kind of accessories they have on something they own (Chess t-shirt, Mario sticker, etc) and try to find something we have in common.
How can I not be socially awkward? I don't understand what to say to people, an I try being extroverted but people just think I'm weird.
Help plz
Idk. Being social comes naturally for me. I guess my tip is to have confidence in what you say, practice building up that confidence around closer friends or people you feel comfortable around. Also, try to make jokes in a conversation. It's something I do a lot (maybe too much) but it makes people think you're funny etc if you find the right thing to say. Most importantly, be yourself. Don't hide you real personality, you'll find people who will appreciate it.
1. I have no confidence whatsoever, I'm always just sad about everything and myself for some reason, which makes me less confident.
2. I am literally a wannabe clown, I want to make people laugh but I fail a lot
3. The reason people hate me in the first place is because I didn't hide my personality
1. Get confident. If you don’t get that, no matter what you do, you’ll never improve at that. So yeah, it’s important. Build it up, like Mei said. Take six months, a year, whatever works for you, and set achievable short-term goals.
2. Stop trying to make people laugh all the time. Be extremely selective. Only make a joke when you’re sure it’ll be received well.
3. People don’t hate you for your personality. Chances are, nobody hates you at all. They probably just find talking with you a bit awkward.

1. fair, but I'm just naturally not confident, and I also try building confidence
2. I do make jokes when I am ABSOLUTELY sure it's received well, but people just still don't like it.
3. Then why da hail they literally saying they hate what I do as hobbies (cubing, yoyoing, music) and everyone finds them more awkward to talk to

I do try that, but I just don't like changing my interests for random people, and the only things I can find are meme stickers or Roblox and anime t shirts
#2 That's literally what I do.
