Them don't. I play Russian players... They have done nothing wrong. Are we all accountable for the wrongs of our nations. If so no one can play!!

I don't want to play any British players because of their treatment of India or Germans because of Hitler or Americans because they invaded Iraq or Iraqis because they invaded Kuwait or Argentinians because they invaded the Falkland Isles...

I was in Kiev and I love the city and the country. I am appalled at what is happening but me not playing against someone who comes from Russia is stupid. That player has done nothing and I will achieve nothing by not playing them

Many Russians and Ukrainians are friends and family of each other. They are not at war with each other. Isolating innocent people is an ironic way of showing disgust

Yea I guess you don't have to then. I've thought about it and I think I probably would still play Russian opponent's if I got any. Not every russian agrees with their invasion of Ukraine and I think if we alienate them all completely they are more likely to agree with Putin's story that the west is all against them and he's the only one who can protect them. And people say oh well they support the war by supporting Putin they should get rid of him, but I think that's easy for us to say but not as easy for them to do in reality. Some of them are protesting it and are being treated harshly for it. And I think those russian players who are here on an international site to play players from around the world are probably more likely to be reasonable people who maybe don't buy all the anti-west them and us sort of talk, or else why would they be here? If they're here on this site they probably don't view us all as enemies so I don't think it's helpful for us to view every single russian as enemies either. Putin is the menace, not the average russian chess player

Though I suppose we could both be wrong. Putin could hear that a 12 year old American has refused a game of on line chess with a Russian and be shocked into ending the war. I hear he is highly influenced by the opinion of preteens in other country's!!!!
