Because a lot of people get annoyed by spam.

I think that a phantom mute is some kind of posting delay imposed automatically when you make multiple postings in a thread without any response from others. (I don't know the exact number that sets off the system.)

Is that correct?

Phantom mutes are when you run out of posts that you can do for that time and later it starts to come back but if you do it as soon as you are unmuted you get like 10 comments
