Yes I HATE most Reality TV. Please bring back Hollywood Squares, F-Troop, You Asked For It ( the show ), Cheers, People Are Funny, etc etc. Smile

Since I do have a thread on the go about older TV shows that were popular years ago I thought that bad programs need to have a list too.

If I remember correctly the Reality TV craze got started some years ago when there was a writers strike in Hollywood. Somebody came up with the idea of pretending to put a group of people all alone on an island and then make them eat bugs and seaweed ( real entertainment there, Wow ). Tongue Out

Of course today we have the problem of all of these new networks that have started up, they need programming. A Golf network needs lots of golf shows. A Cooking network needs a lot of Chefs to provide cooking shows. A Comedy channel needs lots of comedy ( boy do we need some comedy ). Where is all of this programming going to come from ?

I know that someone is going to bring up the show " My Mother The Car " but that series was so bad that it was actually funny. Mind you Hollywood would never do another show about a talking car that is for sure ( what ? you say that you can hear the theme song for " Knight Rider " ? ).

What about a history channel with actual history?

Avatar of NealPage

The History channel is not actual history.  It's infotainment.  They water down and cheapen historical fact to make it marketable for the brainwashed zombie masses.  Real history isn't easy to digest like the HC fluff.  HC wants to show you stuff you already know so you feel smart.

Reality tv is specifically designed to entertain people with a single digit IQ. ;)

Just wanted to say thanks for the posts. I need to disconnect from the internet for a few minutes, back soon tho. Smile

I would think that a network devoted to movies based on History might be a good idea. Movies like " Cromwell ", " Battle Of The Bulge ", " The Blue Max " and " Memphis Belle " etc etc could make for an interesting channel.

The History Channel used to actually have history documentaries on it, and I actually enjoyed watching it back then.  But now, with all their alien, ghost hunting, and end-of-the-world speculation nonsense, I don't ever watch that channel any more.

I think cable TV channels in general are all going that direction.  The SciFi channel used to have all science fiction, but they decided to change to "SyFy" and instead of showing sci fi they started showing all sorts of other shows.

I can't stand all those pseudo science shows, either.

There are some History Channel reality shows that I like though. Pawn Stars, American Pickers, and American Restoration are all pretty good.

If you listen to the UFO nuts, all our modern technology came from the supposed UFO crash in Roswell, NM.  For instance, they claim that the transistor came into being not long after 1947.

Maybe if we had iPhones, iPods, and laptop computers back in the 1950's, I might be inclined to agree.  But if you look at how electronic technology evolved, it was still pretty primitive back then.

Modern Marvels does a pretty good job of explaining how technology works and how it developed over time.

Thanks for the recent posts

One show that I used to like before I got rid of Cable was " The Secret Life Of Machines " ( mind you I do have a thread on the go about Machines ).

Top Gear is pretty good, too. I like the BBC version.

Have to say that it's a golden age for tv drama but it is passing me by, just haven't got the patience to sit down and dedicate my time to it. Am addicted to radio though. I loathe being away from the BBC

Thanks for the posts.

One good show that I remember seeing on the History channel had to do with Military equipment such as cannons and tanks etc ( hosted by the fellow who starred in " Major Dad " ).
