Again, how do you know that these loony bot automutes are not common.

I presume you must have heard enough about them to make the comments about them you just did ?

Is there a count done of these ?

I rather doubt it, no private company likes to display its "sins" voluntarily.

You usually have to drag it out of them

I think autobot muting happens mosty in Live Chess.  In messages and the forums, they tend to block rather than mute (although I've seen mutes too)  The exception is spamming...I don't know the criteria, but if someone sends too many messages they could get muted.

I've given you my take based on my experience.   You can take it or leave it.

Yeah, you really dismantled it.

I'm really feelin' the burn, let me tell ya.

Well you probably are actually........indifference is the sign of not giving a damn....you don't make a comment like that unless you are "burned" or whatever..

Know that old saying ?

"Methinks the Llama protesteth too much ?

Yeah , you clearly read Shakespeare in Highschool. Good for you.

Ha! I HAD to read Shakespeare in High School. The only thing it’s good for is being a contestant on Jeopardy!

People pay you?

Isn't it the opposite?

You buy memberships to gain attention.

Or have you forgotten already?

They make kids read a lot of quality stuff when they're too young and dumb to appreciate it.

I don't whether it has a good effect... probably very minimal.

Usually to appreciate something you have to rediscover it as an adult.

Have at it.

Look, idiot, it takes 5 seconds of googling to get the stat that there were ~150,000 unique visitors today.

So if you've only heard of a few people being muted this month... well... ask a 5th grader to do the math for you, and report back.

And if I do, and I find the one where they admit it all, or most of it ?

What difference will that make to your viewpoint ??

Any ?

I don't have a fixed viewpoint.  I'm open to anything.

One of my friends got muted for spamming my PM's. The funny thing is he wasn't actually spamming, we were having a conversation and all of a sudden he stops responding. 24 hours later, he came back (with some harsh words to say about the autobot muting lol)

They try to detect spam... and do a pretty lousy job of it.

Here is the email trail between myself and help and support (bottom to top, apologies for length).

1.No specific reason given for action taken.

2.22hr response time (into a 24hr mute).

3.Completely invented reason given for action taken.

4.Even if the reason for the mute was factual I don't see how this should result in anything more than a warning if considered unacceptable. It is a 'first offence' and an acronym was supposedly used.

5.I'm not even 100% convinced that 'Darvin' is a human being.

Additionally I have just attempted to post this with the acronym I allegedly used to cause the mute uncensored and was prevented from doing so because it is against guidelines...so how therefore was I muted for posting it?!

Hello Andrew,

I see that you have a point that's why I have shared your feedback with the concerned team to check if we can make the necessary improvements regarding this as soon as possible. I sincerely appreciate you for sharing your thoughts with us, Andrew. Your feedback is vital for us to pinpoint the necessary improvements that we need to make.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Darvin

Hello Darvin,

Thankyou for your response and for lifting the mute on my account. I understand that the system is automatically triggered to mute if certain words or phrases are recognised. However, I can categorically state that I have never sent the message '**** **' in either the forums, private message, or in game chat. If such evidence exists I would like to see it. Therefore I would like to take this opportunity to express my dissatisfaction with what has taken place. As a diamond member for over 5 years with an unblemished record of behaviour on your website and as the super admin of the club which represents my city, I am not happy at all to have been arbitrarily muted without so much as a warning by what appears to be a faulty system. I did not send the message which you say triggered this mute, and in any case even if I had done so I would have thought that the use of an acronym, if deemed unacceptable, would result in a warning, whereas I could better understand if a fully written profanity were to result in an automatic mute.

Best regards

Andy

Hello Andy,

Thank you for contacting Chess.com support. We've been receiving a lot of emails and I sincerely apologize for the late response. I'm here to help.

The system automatically muted your account due to the following messages: "**** ***."

I understand that you could just be responding to an abusive member or you typed that message out of frustration. Just a friendly reminder, the system is designed to automatically send a warning, mute, or ban members that use certain words that are not allowed in our Terms of Service.

That said, if a member is abusive to you during one of your games it will automatically be picked up by the system and it will automatically mute or ban that member's account. We are also doing this because there are kids playing on the site too.

That's also the reason why it is better to report the abusive or suspected members of cheating instead of retaliating back in messages and risk your account being automatically muted by the system. You can check out this page for more info: How do I report someone?.

I understand that you may not be aware of this that's why I have removed the mute on your account!

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Darvin

Hello,

My account has been muted for 24hrs but I am not sure why. Can this be rescinded or at least the reasons explained?

Best

Andy

2 Name and shame, problem is..I didnt !

Got 3 months for that ,and as admitted below, it was not true !

I'm very skilled at this, I don't know about that, but thank you! :)

We can even agree on that you did not name and shame, but sometimes even when you say obvious things on someone, it can fall under that categorization.

Making special reference to this, I love the way you found to put it in a desired meaning. :D

I'd like to use your words now, you're very skilled at this. ;)

And I certainly didn't ask for promises whatsoever, I'm just pointing out what the site's policies are.
What are the site's policies?

I'm thinking of something now, imagine you being in traffic and trying to explain the traffic rules to all the world out there. I think you'd lose all your nerves doing "police work" for free. :D

I won't go any further and bother you any longer, and just asking you to take a look at this:

- Be kind: Treat others how you would like to be treated; they are human like you.
- Be helpful: Build others up, don't tear them down; everyone has needs.
- Be forgiving: Everyone has bad days and we aren't always on our best behavior; give everyone the patience and tolerance you would want.
- Be tolerant: Other people have opinions

I'm here for you if needed and thank you so much for your help in keeping Chess.com a pleasant place to be!

Please stay healthy and safe. As chess players and as humans, we’re all in this together.

Kind regards,
Zoran.

To be honest, I can't make heads or tails out of this.

Get it  ? I never named and shamed anyone !!

But I got muted for it anyway

But sure, autobots should be called autobane.  I wouldn't defend chess.com use of them for a minute, especially in PMs.  And Support always has some lame excuse for not responding... when the backlog is obviously autocreated.

It means, the bots they use are not sophisticated enough to tell the difference !

However it seems they take the most serious action ..whatever.

Then you have to contact a person, and explain why the bot was "dumb"

So far I have "won" every time.

The bots were dumb.......however in some cases I still served the mute. despite an agreement from chess.com that in fact I had done nothing wrong..at all

And they should compensate you for their wrongs.
