I wish there was this feature!?

So I’m learning black defenses as anyone eternally does. My real challenge is practice match up repeatedly.

The only way to truly get to many of the same games is to:
1: pick only black
2: forfeit immediately if white doesn’t open e4 vs d4.
By doing these 2 bound rules, my elo tanks. I started a 2nd account to test it…. It’s not fun to re-farm points. To repeat the exercise. Even doing this exercise allowed me to raise the matches I enjoyed getting to focus on improving 1 match up.

My reform to this is based on plausible already public account data and game reviews.

1st: Define you are only playing black to opt in.
-the more players using this feature literally helps more people’s desire to play white.
2nd: they pick a respectable 1st move preference of move.
-e4/d4 are obvious, but any of the opening moves stockfish feels is solid ethically…. And then range of turn =confidence of move.
Example:
1. auto start black pieces.
2. e4 (90% in reviewed games)
3. Set a timer (30 seconds or 1min)

The way I wish for it to remain ethical is 3 fold:
1. People opt into black which is considered worse.
2. Only people who have used review on their games opt into white in a set amount of days.
3. The amount of reviews requires a review streak of 20 reviews/1month.

If a player of realistic even rating and activity reviewing 1 opening move, that’s reducing variance but it’s also their study. Commit to e4/d4 isn’t removing all variance. But now….. I can focus on a response to London/Queens Gambit/Black mar/etc etc.

I find it very sad that you have to sacrifice most of your score or even be threatened by forfeit too many games vs aborting to force a match.

This feature would eliminate a lot of stress while practicing a black defense that would allow players to grow. I believe the ethical standard of needing active reviews is important and easily tracked.

Please review/critique my idea

That seems like a decent idea, but it would be a lot of work to implement.

If you're trying to learn openings, use the openings tab, or play against yourself using the evaluation bar to see how to play them right. That, or playing against friends who agree to play certain openings would be a good idea as well.

Right, there are totally other ways to achieve this effect. I often to drills of opening with friends in in-person games. But I can still see a world where once it’s possible many people who are frustrated can opt into it.

I find it a beautiful concept to play with since the more successful the option becomes the more the dream of always playing white and practicing 1 attack and reviewing it is actively rewarding
