I'm not so sure we evolved from apes.

But where do those "new genes" come from? God had to have put them there.

God gave us clothing, language and tools. Do you really think, after such short period of time, human brains just "magically" grew without any causal relationship to a higher power? Very unlikely.

We haven't evolved from anything

No and Sam Harris is WRONG in every aspect to think that we can just arbitrarily set the standards of morality. Morals are an abstract concept, with no relationship to the physical (material) world. Unless he's some sort of spiritual Pantheist, which would contradict his being an atheist.

I choose morality because it's what keeps society held together as one.

Nobody is able to refute my arguments. I bet he had to listen to a waking up podcast because he lacks the argument he didn't even come up with!

Well I know for sure God did NOT give us 70s clothes or disco. If God did that would be cruel indeed. "Hooked on fonicks" did not work for me and I'm not very good with tools and got a C in woodshop so I can't comment on the language and tools aspect of your statement. I do like magic shows and know some pretty cool illusions but I don't think I ever said brains "magically" grow, nor would electrical power help a brain grow- it would electrocute. And the main source of power in my house comes through the basement so it's a lower power not a higher one. The one higher electrical power I can think of right now might be something like a ceiling fan but if you get hit in the head with one of those that's definitely not gonna help a human brain magically grow. Hmmm...Tough questions you pose. And I'm not a plumber, electrician or linguist so I guess I'm stumped...However, I did answer the question posed by this thread.

Stop with your smartass retorts and answer the question honestly

I don’t mean to get too sidetracked, but I want to point out that many people have misconceptions about evolution. Humans have not “evolved from Chimpanzees,” but instead “share common ancestors with Chimpanzees.” Andrew Shtulman does a good job explaining this in the book called “Scienceblind,” if anyone is interested learning more about common misconceptions.

Cubronzo, I am not a smart donkey but I hear they have a wonderful sense of humor. And you said a bad word, so I'm telling God so expect to receive a lecture about your morals.....You show no interest in having a serious discussion so there is no need to respond with serious answers (and btw in formal logic, questions are not "arguments," they're just questions). And I already told you I don't respond to insults and yet you continue to take jabs. What good are your morals if you don't practice them. Seriously, think on that and the example you are setting. You are rude, you put words in my mouth I never said and you've made assumptions about me yet don't even know me. Not to mention it's off topic....I answered the question on this thread. I didn't say anything about morals or religion. You injected that. You are free to believe in the religion or world view of your choice. I respect your right to do so...But that is not what this topic is about.

Actually, you're right on point. But unfortunately it may be pointless because I already tried explaining this (see post #3) and the responses I received....Well, let's just say now I remember why I left these forums in the first place so I'll pass the torch to you....Maybe you'll have better luck. But if not, don't stay too long--it will just be a waste of your time.

Thebackwardpawn, I didn’t see your original post until now. I’m glad you made a good, accurate statement.

One can provide facts and explanations, but it’s ultimately up to the recipient to open up their mind.

So, if humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor, where are the remains of this ancestor? There were ancient humans: we found fossils of them. There were dinosaurs: we have fossils of them too. Where are the fossils of this ancestor you speak of?

It's all speculation
