I've always wondered too. I think he/she doesn't want people to know. which I totally understand, there are some pretty nasty trolls here.

No I'm not calling you a troll, you assumed that. And remember what the first 3 letters of the word "assume" are.
I think that the term "dude" has become generic for people of either gender -- just like the term "guy." I don't use the term, but I often hear young people addressing both males and females as "dude." At one point, "dude" may have been considered to include only males, but I don't think that is true any more.
Interestingly, the term originally had a slightly pejorative meaning. Western cowboys referred to urban Easterners (typically men) who vacationed at ranches and played "cowboy" for the weekend. The "real" cowboys considered the "dudes" to be dandies who were not tough enough to truly work on a real ranch, and they regarded these "dudes" as being more concerned about how they looked in their Western outfits than how they could develop any real ranching skills.
