A bunny informed me that this thread died from a lack of carbs, so I decided to do a quick update. I've been keto for over a year - cruising smoothly. Everyone's different - I've learned what works for me and what doesn't work for me. You learn that there's a price to be paid for bingeing and going off the wagon; Getting kicked out of ketosis is not a barrel of laughs. It's easier just to be consistent.
The big keto fad right now is intermittent fasting. I sometimes do this, but never longer than OMAD (One Meal A Day). Dr. Phinney believes that longer fasts have an increased chance of muscle loss. The nice thing about being on keto is that half the time, I don't even think about eating breakfast; The hunger just isn't there. (OK, I sometimes get hunger pangs, but not very often, and usually it's a mild case that passes relatively quickly.)
I've learned to pay attention to my mineral balances; Getting adequate amounts of sodium, magnesium, and potassium is very important. Too little of these usually means leg cramping during the night. In addition to mineral supplements and bouillon broth, I try to frequently eat dark green, leafy salads. (The darker the greens, the more magnesium is present.)
Many other conditions seem to have improved. While these may be coincidences, I now almost never get headaches or colds. Digestion and bowel movements are much better. Exercise is easier with better stamina. I don't get that "after lunch brain fog". Blood pressure is down and is now in the normal range. The bottom line is that keto reduces your body's overall inflammation level, and many things just get better. With what I know now, I can't imagine ever giving up the keto life.
thanks for the link, now enjoying reading other items.
