Left-wing politics supports social equality and egalitarianism, often in opposition to social hierarchy.[1][2][3][4] It typically involves a concern for those in society whom its adherents perceive as disadvantaged relative to others as well as a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished.[1]

The political terms "Left" and "Right" were coined during the French Revolution (1789–1799), referring to the seating arrangement in the French Estates General: those who sat on the left generally opposed the monarchy and supported the revolution, including the creation of a republic and secularization,[5] while those on the right were supportive of the traditional institutions of the Old Regime. Use of the term "Left" became more prominent after the restoration of the French monarchy in 1815 when it was applied to the "Independents".[6] The word "wing" was appended to Left and Right in the late 19th century, usually with disparaging intent and "left-wing" was applied to those who were unorthodox in their religious or political views.

The term was later applied to a number of movements, especially republicanism during the French Revolution in the 18th century, followed by socialism,[7] communismanarchism and social democracy in the 19th and 20th centuries.[8] Since then, the term left-wing has been applied to a broad range of movements[9] including civil rights movementsfeminist movementsanti-war movements and environmental movements,[10][11] as well as a wide range of parties.[12][13][14] According to former professor of economics Barry Clark, "[leftists] claim that human development flourishes when individuals engage in cooperative, mutually respectful relations that can thrive only when excessive differences in status, power, and wealth are eliminated".[15]

Are chess people really mostly on the left? What is your evidence for this?

Do chess people really think more about social issues / politics than others? What is your evidence for this?

And yet you choose to  espouse your political opinions on a site developed for chess.

If you are not left wing when you are young you have no heart...when you are still left wing when over 60 you may have too much heart..

1 Chess people in here are mostly young adults under say 40

2 They are used to think for themselves ...they are used to thinking and when you think you come up with left

Of course they can be wrong, and sometimes were. For example, Sartre rejected the notion of the subconscious, bringing him into direct conflict with Freud. Camus is often taken to be wrong in his stance on the Algerian struggle for independence. And he fell out with Sartre. As for Jung, the collective unconscious is far from established fact. As for Picasso...well he was a great painter, but that doesn't make his political opinions any more valuable. Even Newton and Einstein were wrong on occasion.

The original saying is: If you are not left wing in your youth, you have no heart. If you are not right wing when you get older, you have no brain.

Gerberk8

You just made my point Reuben...Chess people can think
