the mask issue is one i don't get. i do not understand how people are not just reluctant to wear one, but proud of it. there is a video of a grocery store in naples, florida (of course) where virtually no one is wearing a mask. when the owner of the store is interviewed, he used his background as a pseudo-scientist to say that he knew masks did nothing.
this is a type of effort to have an opinion and stick by it-no matter what research shows. pure ignorance.
similar to the anti-vaxxers. we have wiped out smallpox, polio, measles, etc, but some think the vaccines cause autism.
i do not understand this idea that, because i'm alive now, i deserve to live life to the fullest! regardless of any consequences! this, unfortunately, is where politics comes in. data shows that countries that were in lockdown have fared better than those that have not and that wearing a mask can stop the spread.
here in the u.s. we see the differences on display regularly. the reason? states rights. some have mandatory lockdowns, or, mask mandates. others do nothing. if there was ever an issue where the federal government should take charge, isn't this it?
australia recently went into a nationwide lockdown after a single positive covid test. here in the u.s. we have ~20,000 new (reported) infections every day, and, what do we do?
a couple of topics about covid and how it affects us have been locked due to some outlandish political commentary as well as what i would call over zealous mods that got the job just a month or two ago.
so, we need to keep this at a level where they leave us alone.
i have previously written to a well respected mod that there is no way to discuss covid completely if there is nothing about politics in the discussion. he seemed to allow some leeway in what was written, but we need to tread carefully.
