There were a time of "GM's draws", when player could save energy and make short draw with one opponent and play best with another. But it doesn't really give an advanatge. Bobby's problem was he did not win his games. And he played such "GM's draws", too.

Not in a match, but it can give an advantage in a tournament setting.
