The most important evention ever, in my opinion, was the plow.  We would never have sustained ourself and grow enough food to support much of a population without the plow.  I bet most don't even know to to make a plow or use a plow, but without it, you would not be able to grow much of anything to support a large population.

The most important invention was the tool/tools used to MAKE that plow! And then I guess the tools used to make those tools were kinda important, too.

I say the internet. It allows for amazing speed of communications all around the world. I am part of the younger generation so it is kind of hard for me to imagine life without computers/internet.

The most important invention in the past 2,000 years is the printing press.  And the 2ndd book ever published on the printing press and in English (he published the history of Troy in Belgium in 1471) was a chess book, The Game and Playe of Chesse , published on March 31, 1474 by William Caxton.  It was the first book printed in England and the first book with a published date.  He even illustrated it with woodcuts, the first to uses woodcuts for pictures (this was used in the 2nd editon, not the first edition).  Caxton translated the French manuscript by Cessolis.  This book popularized the game of chess and it encouraged reading and writing.  It was the 1st book to go into second edition (1483).  Caxton printed 98 books from his printing press.  His chess books was the most popular and most profitable.  His chess book was actually used by the Church to teach morality as an example of wisdom and virtue.

There is no "most important"... everything we do is "the most important"...

 I'll shut up

I say the most important invention was some combined form of a rock and a stick to make a spear that early humans could hunt with.

Pants, otherwise our private parts would be exposed and we'd be arrested. But then again, if they hadn't been invented, that would mean the cops weren't wearing any, so that would make them hypocrits. Thats just typical of the police.
