Well weather is weird in most places because of global warming. I just talked to some Greenlanders and it's crazy there also, they are very concerned also. (Due to melting ice the polar bears have nowhere to go, so they go to human cities to look for food, and then they have to shoot them.)
So sadly, we have to accept that crazy events like this will start being quite common.

I gather that the fire has now gone beyond the town and is getting near some of the oilsands plants. A couple of the plants have been shut down for safety reasons and production will decrease for a while.

Some of the workers North of Fort McMurray have now been moved out as the fire moves closer to some oil-sands plants. Meanwhile the small town of Fox Creek has been evacuated due to another forest-fire ( this one is in NW Alberta ). A couple inches of rain would be nice, settle things down a bit.

Good news to report. In the last week or so we have had a bit of rain in the area and the fire has became a bit smaller. Also the wind has changed direction and blown the fire towards the East, away from the city ( the worst may be over ).

Newscasts have been showing the raging fire that is trying to destroy the town of Fort McMurray here in Alberta. Over 60,000 residents have had to flee the town and also over 1,600 buildings have been destroyed. For several days the area was under the influence of winds from the South that drove the fire towards the town. We are in an area where winds from the West are quite common and such a wind would have been quite helpful, but Mother Nature was not very nice at all.
