well, what did he say? (presuming you were serious about asking him; also presuming you were telling the truth about being in contact with him)...MY question regarding his allegedly refusing to utter the line "and I will have my vengeance in this life or the next" WAS serious, however...
Crowe was so unhappy with the script during production that he would frequently walk off the set and inititally refused to say the famous line, “I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”
Crowe later said to the screenwriter, William Nicholson: “Your lines are garbage, but I’m the greatest actor in the world, and I can make even garbage sound good.”

...vintage Russell Crowe, primadonna though he was/is; and overrated, perhaps (both by himself and in general)
Maybe they should've just recast for the role; they've done such things before (example: Back To The Future). He was one of the top actors of the time but not THE top actor, regardless of his self-rated prominence.
Notwithstanding all that, however, whenever Ridley Scott does a historical film, it always ends up being grossly inaccurate and features anachronistic things (read: GLADIATOR, NAPOLEON)...he should just stick to horror-science fiction, like the ALIEN franchise...![]()
