This is why you need to make these things look different asap, psychologically it deals with the conscience. How will you make the guy prove it is his bike? How will you know he is not going to score a free bike? Clearly he doesn't take care of it anyway.

Where I live your expected to send it to the police. Not too long ago my houses's cars were broken into, not much stolen (£60) and a bike was left in our yard. We gave it to the police. I think to keep it may have been a criminal offence.
Anyway if no one claims it from the police they'll give it back to us.

noooooooo I wasn't even. My son was the one who said he thinks it was the neighbors down the road.
So, once he said that, I've gotta follow up.
My original thought was, it's on my property it's mine. finders keepers losers weepers motto. Why would I turn it in? It was on my driveway! ya know?
I figured it was a gift from someone since 2 of my bikes have already been stolen.
May be a bike from several blocks away- criminals stole it, rode a bit, and then dumped it for a better one. Could be from miles away.

Sigh....paint job, reflectors, stickers...new bike. Take a few pics with the bike in different locations , add different dates to the pictures, shows you've had it for months.

I could have put a flyer on telephone posts in the neighborhood...that could be a way of making a quick buck. and yea, why didn't this person lock up this bike?

I would understand this more if it was just me. My boy, however needs to understand the law of honesty. We have a lead so we should go and follow up.
If it was just me, i'd most likely sit on it and eventually turn it in. The bike is too nice.
Then again, if it was a crappy bike and worked good, I wouldn't think twice on keeping it. I would keep it.

All I am saying is : somewhere out there is a guy that needs to learn how to better take care of his stuff or somebody else will, now all he is learning is : my stuff returns regardless. You are denying somebody a valuable life lesson worth more than the bike.
Ah, but perhaps they have already learned the lesson and retiring the bike will not affect that.
