I don't know much about either of these things but I'm interested .

If anyone would like to share their knowledge or experience I'd love to hear .

I'd prefer to read the words of the contributors rather than links though , the information is more accessible that way .
Thank you .

Meditation is the focussing of the mind on inner thoughts and mindfulness to the benefit of the individual. Nirvana is a rock band.

tomtrytostay
To the benefit . What benefit?
mdinnerspace

This was answered in your last thread very nicely.

Now a new thread.

Jeez... this makes what?

The 8th thread on your self centered ignorance?

Never a bigger fool been seen.

Tom m'boy, what in the blistering blue blazes are you playing at? You're gonna crash the entire internet at this rate!
tomtrytostay

ha ha. I'll settle down.

Kaynight. One day you'll realise I don't need your approval. I know I'm okay.

trysts

It seems there are two types of meditation? And both types are for leaving the world of clocks and becoming more aware of the present, I believe. One is for intellectual endeavors and the other is for bodily attunement. At least that's how I've understood it:)

People can get lost in an activity . Is that what you mean Trysts? This type of concentration removes us from general perception of reality , no?
trysts

Well, because "meditation" can be used to refer to things I don't understand--like religious/spiritual stuff--then perhaps you're right in those instances. But the way I understand it is not as a removal from general perception but rather like being more attuned to perception.

mdinnerspace

Your "understanding" trysts is incorrect. xming in toms thread 'mindfulness' explains quite nicely the true meaning/goal of meditation. Better words than I presented. Toms preconceptions are out in right field, he will never understand. Too much a life of denial plus thinking he knows it all.

For those interested see the last 30 posts in 'mindfullness'.

Succinctly, meditation allows the mind to reach a state of nirvana where no thought exists. tom calls this "like being dead, what's the point"? he says. The words of a fool.

trysts

I've read a bit about that notion of meditation too, mdinnerspace, but reaching a state where no thought exists sounds more like being unconscious to me

mdinnerspace

@trysts... nothing religeous or spiritual (although this word can have different meanings). It is a removel from perception, a state where nothing exists but the pure self. There exists no thoughts.

The "benifits" for the mind and body reguire further inquiry. There are several roads.

Toms obviously took a wrong turn in his road along the way .

mdinnerspace

It is not a notion trysts. It is the meaning of meditation.

The western world has completely misrepresented it's true meaning.

mdinnerspace

No thought absolutely does not in any way, shape or form, relate to bring unconscious.

Trysts at ten . I see your point . Like a person intensely watching for a butterfly to hatch maybe .

I guess what I'm thinking about is a person doing extremely complex mathematics . Or a better example , that guy that played paceman for twenty four hours .

I suppose this type of intense concentration could be described as meditation .

mdinnerspace

The mind and body reaches a state of total relaxation. The benifits accumulate over time.

tomtrytostay
Bodily attunement.
You mean like tantric sex and yoga I guess .

I'm reminded of a lady I work with . She runs for hours regularly . I guess this gives her the opportunity to clear her mind .
mdinnerspace

Wrong again tom

mdinnerspace

Meditation is the Opposite of concentration.

Jeez wake up

mdinnerspace

You are hopeless tom
